Should the remodeling not be fin ished by then, however, it will be opened to the students during next week. Miss Morgan, director of the pro gram, stated that the facilities will be for the students to enjoy during their leisure hours, but that they will be expected to take great care in handling the equip ment. If signs of carelessness are shown, means will be taken where by the less thoughtful students may get a better understanding of how to take care of property that is provided for them. i Hours during which the recrea tion room will be opened have not yet been approved, but they will probably correspond with the scheduled dating hours on campus. COMMITTEES NAMED FOR MAY DAY EVENT Committees were named earlier this week for the annual May Day festivities to be held here Satur day, May 7. Students and faculty members v/ill take part in organizing the program and plans are now under way to make this year’s an ex tremely successful event. The theme of the celebration will be folk dances of different countries. Shelby And Qiffside High Schools Are Entertained By Band On Tour Thirty-Three Students Take Part In Four Concerts This Week The newly organized Brevard college concert band has complet ed its first tour of the spring, giv ing four concerts in Shelby, Cliff- side and Rutherfordton-Spindale. Thirty-three students participat ed in the program under the direc tion of Malvin N. Artley, head of the department of music here. The group left the campus Wednesday morning in cars and busses and re turned late Thursday afternoon. First stop on the trip was at Shelby high school Wednesday af ternoon at 3 o’clock. Later in the evening, the band played at the First Methodist church of Shelby and were entertained by the Meth odist Youth Fellowship there. Sleeping accommodations were supplied in Shelby by townspeo ple. The selections were as follows: “The Rosary,” by Nevin, Harris Johnson, trombone; “garafiande,” by Handel, David Duncan, oboe; “First Movement, Concerto in F Minor,” by Von Weber, William Duckworth, clarinet; “Third Move ment, Concerto in F Minor,” by Von Weber, Norma King, clarinet; “Such a Li’l Fellow,” by Dich- moiit, and “Carissima,” by Penn, Marye Margaret Graybeal, vocal se lections; “The Big Brown Bear,” by Manna-Zucca, LaNue Floyd, vo calist; “Tu Lo Sai,” by Torelli and “My Johann,” by Grieg, Betty Lou Boykin, vocalist; “I Heard a Forest Praying,” by de Rose, Patsy Cas- teen, vocalist; “May Night,” by Palmgren, Norma King, piano; “Traumerei,” by Strauss, Dixie Dellinger, piano; “Sonata, Op. 49, No. 2,” by Beethoven, Ann Smith, piano. Miss Brevard College Of 1949 To Be Crowned Daring Dance Mixed Chorus To Present Concert Of Easter Music Brevard’s mixed chorus will give- a concert of Easter music on Tuesday night, April 12, in the Brevard Methodist church. The selections will tie in with the week of Easter services planned for the church and the community. Beginning at 8:15 p. m., the pro gram will be under the direction of Bruce Livengood, a member of the college music department fac ulty. Frank Roberts, a student from Charlotte, will be accompan ist for the chorus. The selections which have been chosen for presentation include: “God Is A Spirit,” by Bennett; “Cherubim Song,” by Bortniansky; “Carol of the Palms,” by Clokey; “In Joseph’s Lovely Garden,” by Dickinson; “Bow Down Thine Ear,” by Fatyeff-Tkach; “An Easter Al leluia,” by Fuhrmann; “A Ballad of the Trees and Master,” by Mat thews; “Great Peace Have They That Love Thy Law,” by Rogers; “Come, Ye Blessed," by Scott; “Christ the Lord Is Risen Again,” by Thiman; and “Upon a Hill,” by Townsley. Those girls taking part in the contest and the clubs which are sponsoring them are as follows. Judges for the event will be Jack Matthews, president of the Brevard Merchant’s Association and manager of Slack’s store in Brevard; John Anderson, editor of the Transylvania Times; and a third to be announced later. , The winner of the contest will receive an eleven inch gold cup with “Miss Bitevard CtoUege of 1949” engraved on it along with her name and the name of the club which sponsored her. Judging will be on beauty, costume, pos ture, afad general appearance. Ernest Gilstrap will act as master of ceremonies and Miss Inez Elledge, winner of the title last year, will crown the 1949 queen. Claude Hicks, president of the student body, will present the award. Centered around the beauty con test will be a semi-formal dance beginning at 8 o’clock. The con test will be held at intermission and dancing will continue there after until midnight. —Turn To Page Four Phi Theta Kappa Holds Initiations Twelve students were initiated into the Delta Pi chapter of Phi Theta Kappa here on Wednesday night, March 23, in the West Hall' living room.
