By CLARION FEATURE EDITOR “All aboard! The bus is about to leave for Banner Elk where we’ll all see the Tornados play Lees-McRae.” Oh, My!! What an exaggerated statement! We left all right, about ten-thirty one Satur day morning, but I can hardly say we went to see a football game. We got there in time to see the fourth quarter, and the fact that the score was 42-0 led us to wonder whether it was a ball game or a track meet. Might I add at this point that the scenery along the Skyline Drive was breath taking? They must have known we were coming “just for the ride,” for the trees were beautiful. Our bus was sponsored by the cheerleaders, and here are the “famous last words” of one of them: “I’ll just not go if we get one of those local chariots.” She went, though, you can bet on it! Oh, it was a fine one, too! Why, I’ll bet it would do all of 35 miles an hour going straight down hill. We weren’t too far down the road before all of us realized the situation. We didn’t need anyone to tell us; we could just hear it now, booming out loud and clear over the public address system: “The Brevard boosters are now entering the stadium as the second half gets underway.” This started out as a joke, but as time dragged on, so did we, and this little state ment became more fact than fic tion. In order to save time we didn’t stop to eat, but one bright boy remembered to pack a lunch; and as he stood at the front of the bus munching a tasty sandwich, a chorus of “Archie is a Meanie” rang out in the bus. I don’t know what he was eating, but if it had been horse meat I’m sure it would have tasted great to us then. We all had plenty of apples, but they couldn’t flo much for one’s appetite when 'Rayon” kept crying for a big, thick steak. Reid Gilbert had his little cam era along on the trip, and did hft have many fine funs; I’ll bet hie’s being paid hush money right now to keep him from turning those pictures in to the Clarion. Would be interesting data, I can assure you. I saw the films—after they were developed, of course. When at 3:40 the driver parked the bus, we hopped out and went running down to the field, shout ing at the top of our lungs and ringing our cow bells for all we were worth. It finally occurred to us to ask the score and when some one politely spit out that it was ■‘the first of the fourth” and, that Lees-McRae was leading 42-0 we ceased all the noise making and crawled through the grass under —Turn to Page Seven GAITHER'S RESTAURANT -FOR THE- Best In Food PISGAH CANDY COMPANY Delicious Candies iMiisiiiiiiiMiiiiititiiiiitiiiiiiitiiiiiiiiitiiiillliiliiiiiiiiMMi' ^aGREAT BIG, : Fit ;QyALIT^ PRINTS 8 Exposure RofI Film | En/orged To Jumbo Size 12 Exposures - 60c 16 Exposures - 80^ VALUABLE PREMIUMS FREE MAILERS • GOOD SERVICE DUCKWORTH MOTOR CO.
