OCTOBER 11, 1957 THE CLARION PAGE THRfiE Sports Talk With TAPPY Spring Practice If you happened to be walking J-X J'-'Vk - — by the baseball field in the last few weeks you might have gotten the idea that baseball season starts EARLY at Brevard. Actually the idea of these fall practices is to get a general look at the boys who will be out for the team next spring. Coach Martin seemed very pleased at the number of boys who turned out for the practices and hopes to see as many, if not more, by the time the season rolls in. Returning to the fold for another season we find Bill Hall, Gary Frick, Ed Dacus, Bob Ramsey, Har old Mask, and Raburn Robinson. It looks like the old members will be fighting neck and neck with the new freshmen members for start ing positions when the team takes the field this spring. Along with the familiar faces of last years returning freshmen there are also number of promis ing new hopefuls out for the squad. II looks as though Brevard may produce one of the top conference contenders, for many of the old players have greatly improved dur ing their experience last year. The team compiled a record of five wins against twelve losses last season, but are expecting to better that mark as they swing into action this spring. However, no matter what kind of a record they chalk up, you can be sure they will be out there fighting and playing to win, every minute of every game. Intramurals Begin The intramurals touch football schedule is now in full swing as many of you probably know. The opening game was an excit ing a game as anyone could ask for, with Green Hall Basement Floor victorious by a one point margin over the Day Student team, A crowd of about 50 spectators saw the Green Hall team come from be- hind to score in the final seconds of the game. The game ended with Green Hall on the long end of a 19-18 score. It was a well fought game by both teams and a hard loss for the Day Students to take. Ten sion seems to be high among all the teams and each player is anx ious for his team to get into ac tion. We hope participation will be 100 percent and that those, if any, who are unable to play, will be watching and cheering their team from the sidelines. Women’s Athletic Program Being Mapped Out The Women’s Athletic Associa tion met Wednesday night, October 2, in Jones Hall to discuss plans for this year’s sport activities. Miss Frances, our advisor, spoke about the various trophies and medals v/hich can be won by the freshmen and sophomores. Our president, Audrey Honey cutt, and our sports manager, Myr- na Fisher, urged all the girls to participate in various intramural sports which are being offered for the girls this year. They are hock ey, basketball, pingpong, badmin ton, and softball. For a good start there will be pingpong matches played in the barn October 12, starting at four o’clock. We want to see all you boys and the girls who are not play ing in the matches, there. This year’s officers are presi- Lenus C. Morrison and Larry A. Wise are shown \vith Captain C. B.
