SPORTS TALK with Tappy Brevard Downs LCes-McRae lu Overtime 82-81 The crowd excitedly held its breath, all eyes on the clock and the basket, Kent Laughter was standing at the foul line. The clock read 31 seconds left to play and Brevard trailing 80-81. Laughter hit on his first shot, tying the game 81-81. He hesitated, then sank his second, and the Torna does took the lead. The time was gone before a Lees-McRae could get a shot off, and the game ended with Brevard holding a one point lead. Brevard took advantage of every break and never let up, as they beat Lees-iMcRae 82-81. The game end ed in a 69-69 tie, calling for a five minute overtime which was all the (Tornadoes needed. After holding a ten point lead in the first quar ter, Brevard fell behind and had to come from behind to put the ^ game on ice in the final period. I Lloyd Hensley continued to lead the Brevard five as he i>aced the offensive attack with 25 points. Tornadoes Rip Furrum 92-50 The Brevard Tornadoes turned in their best performance of the season here last Friday night as they romiped over Ferrun 92-50. It was Brevard all the way and the j Virginia team never once held the lead. As the game progressed, it turned into more of a comedy than anything else, with the Ferrum team falling farther and farther be hind. Brevard’s first string watched the game from the bench almost the entire second half, while the second string took advantage of their out classed opponents to increase the Brevard lead by 40 points. Don Livingston and Lloyd Hens ley led the Tornadoes to victory— each scoring 17 points. U. B. Dey- ton dumped in 14 markers while Wayne (Potsy) Cordell got ten. The team ^owed great bench strength, each member of the team hitting for at least 2 points. Bruce Forbes, Benny Deyton, Dave Chant, and Harold Wilson all turned in fine performances and will prdbably see more action in future games.
