The Graduating Class Of 1958 At Brevard College
Glee Club Tours

Successful Trip
The Brevard College Glee Club
left Saturday, May 10, on its an
nual spring tour, which took them;
to six Methodist Churches and six |
high schools throughout Western j
and Piedmont North Carolina. The |
tcur lasted through Tuesday, May j
15. i
The thirty-seven voice group,
under the direction of Professor
Nelson F. Adams, presented pro
grams of both sacred and secular
music; Miss Elizabeth Whisenant
was the accompanist.
On Sunday, May 11, the group
sang at the Myers Park Methodist
and the First Methodist churches
in Charlotte. They sang at Lincoln-
ton High School on Monday morn
ing and at the First Methodist
Church in Maiden on Monday even
ing. On Tuesday morning, they pre
sented a program at Southwest
High School in Forsyth County,
and that afternoon they sang at
Kernersville High near Winston-
Salem. The group then traveled to
Greensboro, where they sang at
the Bessemer Methodist church.
The Wednesday schedule includ
ed programs at Rockwell High
School in Rowan County and at
Winecoff High School, near Con
cord. In the evening they sang at
the Spindale Methodist Church.
The Glee Club gave a program at
the Bryson City High School on
TW«.t^ioy afternoon and sang in
P'ranklin at the Methodist Church
that night.
Also, the group had some free
time in which to attend movies in
Charlotte, shop in Greensboro, and
browse around Cherokee on the
way home. On Saturday, Tuesday,
and Wednesday nights, the Glee
Club members were guests in the
homes of chtirch members, and
Siinday and Monday nights were
spent at Mull’s Motel near Hickory.
The group will present their an
nual concert in the Campus Cen
ter Auditorium on May 30. On the
Friday evening before, all mem
bers will be guests of Mr. and Mrs.
Adams for supper.
Graduation Will Be June 1st;
Sprinkle And Grogan To Speak

sophomores are scheduled to grad-

ment exercises to be held on Sun
day, June 1.
The festivities will begin on Sat
urday, May 31, at 12;30 p. m. with
an Alumni luncheon and business
meeting in the college cafeteria,
and at that time the results of the
alumni officers election will be
made known. Members of the 1958
graduating class will be guests of
the Alumni Association for the
hincheon and will be officially wel
comed into the association.
At eight o’clock in the evening,
the college Glee Club, under the
direction of Mr. Nelson Adams,
will present its annual concert in
the Campus Center auditorium.
The public is cordially invited to
atlend.
Dr. Henry C. Sprinkle, Jr., of
New York City, will deliver the
Commencement sermon at 11:00
o’clock on Sunday morning, in the
Brevard Methodist Church.
A Carillon recital will be heard
beginning at three o’clock on Sun
day afternoon.
At four o’clock, the graduation
exercises will begin in the college
auditorium. Mr. Leslie S. Grogan,
manager of the DuPont Silicon
plant in Transylvania County will
be the commencement speaker.

Students Will Sing
The last formal recital of the
year will be presented Friday
evening. May 23. This recital wiK
feature piano and voice students
of Mrs. Louise Miller, Mr. Peter
Ford, and Mr. Ralph Reed. Among
the performers will be Miss Donna
Johnson and Miss Elizabeth Whise
nant, two sophomore music stu
dents. Miss Johnson will play “Son-
atine” by Maurice Ravel and “Lotis
Land” by Cyril Scott. Miss Whise
nant is to play “Movements Per-
petuals” by Poulenc and “Jardins
sous la Pluie” by Debussy.
“Loveliest of Trees”, by Duke,
v/ill be sung by Janice Medford.
Martha Laughlin will then sing
“Dear Love, Lay Thy Hand”, by
Schumann; “The Lotus-flower”, by
Schumann, and “The Big Brovm
Bear”, by Queen. Ann Yarbrough
will sing “Pleading”, by Kramer;
followed by David Trucksess’s ren
dition of “The Erl King”. -

Baccalaureates
It will be of interest to learn

and administration are partici
pating in local high school bacca
laureate services. Dr. Bennett is
conducting the baccalaureate ser
vice at Enka Sunday night, June 1;
and Professor Roy was asked to de
liver the baccalaureate sermon at
Mills River High School Tuesday
night. May 27.

Named As Marshals
The Clarion staff takes pride in
announcing the 1958 marshals for
giaduation. The marshals are cho
sen to hold such an honor on the
high scholastic record they have
held all year. This year’s marshal*
are Mildred Miller, who will serve
as chief; Carolyn Wright, Myra
Dellinger, and Agnes Hamilton.

honor to be appointed as a gradu
ation marshal.
