Before the tapping, Hazel Williams, president, listed the requirements for the BSO which are: a 1.5 academic average; ap proval by the faculty, the Dean of Women, and the Big Sisters; and qualities of character, lead ership, and friendliness. The Big Sisters who will guide the Freshmen women in becom ing adjusted to college life next year are: Carol Livingston, pres ident; Pam McKinney, Phyllis Voight, Sandy Hudson, Eliza beth Jenkins, Libby Jordan, Car- lene Watson, Martha Gibbs, Nancy Milner, Edna Swaim, Doris Lawson, Barbara Oliver, Juanita McKee, Joyce Mabry, and Kitty WTiitworth. Many Events Wilf Be Highlights As 1960-61 Year Ends College Organizations Hold Elections For Officers^ Make Plans For Coming Year The Men’s House Council, un der the leadership of Mr. Mal colm R. Henderson, Dean of Students, recently elected of ficers for the school year 1961- 62. Those elected to lead th6 Council next year are Gilbert Massie, President; Barry Han cock, Vice-President; Whit Lof- lin, Secretary; and Steve Shep- phard, Treasurer. In addition to the election of officers, the Council also chose the following students to main tain law and order in the dorms as hall proctors: John Goins, Perry Harper, H. M. Summey, Gene Ballard, Doug Scott, Jim Wilson, Monty Matthews, Phil Berrier, and Gene Holland. ship, Judy Payseur; and Mo tive, Edna Swaim. The officers for the Women’s House Council have been elected for the year of 1961-62. They are as follows: President, Sally Maynard, Winter Park, Florida; Vice-President, Ruth Blalock, Lowell, North Carolina; and Secretary, Mitsy Crownover, Asheville, North Carolina. ' The following students have received offices in the Methodist Student Fellowship for next year. They are: President, Mary Bryson; Vice-President, Marilyn Wilson; Secretary,. Carol Pad gett; Treasurer, John Smith; Re freshments, Ann McConnell; Fel lowship, Charles Smith; Wor- The Christian Council met on Thursday night, May 18, in the faculty dining room. After sup per they went to the Prayer Chapel in Dunham Hall for the installation of the new officers. The officers for 1961-62 are: Ruth Blalock, President; Edna Swaim, Secretary; Marilyn Wil son, Chairman and Doris Ann McCall, Co-Chairman of Ves pers. The new officers for Kappa Chi are: Ann McConnell, Presi dent; Edna Swaim, Women’s Vice President; Doris Ann Mc Call, Secretary and Treasurer. The Kappa Chi held their last meeting at supper in the Facul ty Dining Room on Friday, May 19. At this meeting they gave Mr. Roy a New English Version of the New Testament. The Phi Theta Kappa officers for the forthcoming school year have been announced by the organization. They are as follows: President, Carole Liv ingston; Vice-President, H. M. Summey; Secretary, Martha Gibbs; Treasurer, Phil Berner Turn to Page Eight HI The 1961 Commencement Weekend will be filled with in teresting and varied activities for the graduating class, their parents and guests, alumni, fac ulty members, and the adminis tration. The program begins on Fri day, May 26, with a Victory-Over- Exams party given for the grad uates by Dean and Mrs. J. Bennett. Then following rehear-’ sal and preparation for com mencement services on Satur day morning at 10:30 in the Methodist Church, the Brevard College Alumni Association wiH honor the graduates with a luncheon at 1 p. m. in the col lege cafeteria. At 8 p. m. Saturday night, the Glee Club, Madrigal singers, and Wind Ensemble will be present ed in the annual Commencement concert in the Campus Center Building Auditorium. On Sunday, May 28, at 11 a. m. in the Methodist Church, Dr. Lee F. Tuttle will deliver the Commencement sermon. At 3:45 p. m., prior to gradua tion, a recital will be given ok. the Carillon bells. At 4 p. m., graduation exer cises will be held for the 1961 graduating class in the Campos Center Building Auditorium. Principal speakers for the af ternoon will be Dr. Lester F. Zerfoss, director of Industrial Relations and Management ser vices for American Enka cor- poratioH, and Dr. Emmett K. McLarty, Jr., president of Bre vard College. Dr. John B. Ben nett, academic dean, will pre sent the honors and awards and announce the honor roll and Dean’s List. Dr. Bennett and Dr. McLarty will then award the Associate in Arts degrees and Junior Col lege Diplomas to the graduating class. A reception for the graduates will be held immediately follow ing the exercises in the faculty lounge. Dr. C. Edward Roy, coUege marshal, and the freshmen mar^ shals will usher and lead the processions at the commence ment service and graduation ex ercises. Several members of the Women’s Athletic As sociation recently received sweaters which they earned by accumulating points for th^ir athletic endeavors. Several more earned letters by the same method.
