This the last issue of our dear ole CLARION for this school term. This columnist has enjoyed being on the staff and sending odds and ends of gossip and extra-so cial news your way. ★ ★ ★ BEST WISHES to Betty Hen- line who said “I didn’t know what to say”, when Oscar Smith gave her a sparkling engagement ring last Monday evening. Bet ty and Oscar plan to be married in a year and a half. Congratu lations to tooth of you. ★ ★ ★ A SHOWER for bride-to-be Marilyn Wilson was given in the basement of Jones Hall by Mary Bryson and the “basement girls . She received many gifts to help her start her new home. Mari lyn will marry Guy Hughes in June They will make their home in Orlando, Florida, where Guy is now employed. ★ ★ * , A PICNIC given by Coach and Mrs. Martin will be held at Camp Deerwood tomorrow in honor of all the athletic paPticipants. There are forty-eight, including the cheerleaders, who have par- ' icipated in Brevard College .sports events. They have been invited to bring a date for swim ming, dancing, canoeing, and fun Mrs. Martin will make po tato salad and cook hamburgers. Mrs. Martin says, “I hope they will all be able to come and bring their dates. I know it will be a lot of fun”. To the coach and the team, you have done a great job this year in all sports. No matter What the sport — you’ve been tops. ★ ★ ★ SAD? Yes, in a way, and hap py, too. Sad — because for some of us sophomores, it will be the last time we will ever be together. Happy — because we all have achieved another semester of school, whether freshmen or sophomores. Part of it is behind us now. As you pack, don’t forget your Mickey Mouse cap and membership card. Seriously, it has been a good year, rain and all. We on the staff, and I personally, hope you find happiness in everything you do. Dr. Julian L. Culbertson, who retired last June as Chairman of the department 'of chemistry at Washington State University, Pullman, Washington, has served as acting head of the Brevard College chemistry department this year while Miss Bobbie Jean Nicholson continued her doc toral work at 'Vanderbilt Uni versity. He and Mrs. Culbertson will return to the state of Washing ton next month to begin his “active” retirement. The Cul bertsons expect to settle some where in the Puget Sound area. Harviii to Columbia Because of the extended ill ness of his father, which neces sitates a return to Columbia, South Carolina to look after family business affairs, Mr. Frank M. Harvin has resigned from the Brevard College facul ty, effective this June. Mr. Harvin was appointed to the faculty in 1955. He taught European and American History and U. S. Government.
