DECEMBER 13, 1963 THE CLARION PAGE THREE i^reuard Ciioo6e6 CliridmaS (^ueen Jor 1965 By TREVA MITCHELL The coming of Christmas brings many good things, in-j eluding a new Queen for Bre-j vard College. She is smiling Darlene Carey Tyndall, and she was named Christmas Queen during half-time of the Brevard- Warren Wilson basketball game Saturday night. Darlene was selected by pop ular vote, as were the four at tendants who made up the Christmas Court. Two freshmen ffirls accompanied the new Queen. They were Donna Nich ols, who was escorted by Neil Slierrill, and Jo Ann Doyle, who was escorted by Mike Hampton. Sophomore attendants were Car ol Sorton and Melba Blanton, who were escorted by Bob Mals- |iy, and Lloyd Crisco, respective ly. It seems as if the Yankees are having a run on lovely girls this year, for our new Queen is [rcm the North. Her home is in Georgetown, Delaware. She is quite fond of the South, and ■ikes Southern people. There 's one thing that the South doesn’t have, insists Darlene. That would be James Howard VreeLand, or Jimmy, who is Darlene’s main interest right now. When asked what she planned for her future, Darlene answer ed in a flash; “Marriage, and :wo more years of college.” Her marriage would be to Jimmy, of course, and her final two years of college would be spent either at Salisbury State Teacher’s College, or possibly the Univer sity of Delaware. As for her favorite subject, academically speaking, our new Queen says that “lit” is her very favorite. Hobbies and pastimes? “Well, I can truthful ly say that I would rather fly than anything else in the world.” Darlene also enjoys all kinds of sports, loves to go hiking, and eating is her favorite indoor sport! Darlene thoughtfully said that Jacqueline Kennedy is the one person that she most admires. Why? “Because of her poise and dignity.” When questioned about her reaction when she was introduc ed as the new Christmas Queen, Darlene had this to say: “Oh, I just couldn’t believe it! I didn’t think that I would be able to walk across the gym floor!” Needless to say, she made it. . . .
