They had a 5-0 regular season record and a 8-0 oveiall record. In second place were the “Cellar-Dwellers” with a 4-1 season record and a 6-2 overall record. Green Hall defeated the Taylor Hall team by a score of 41-0 in the All-Star game. Although the Taylor boys were out-matched, they played a very hard game. Forte, Raper, and Tanner were outstanding of fensive players for the Green All-Stars, while Noell, Buell, and Hampton played a good defensive game. Outstanding players from Taylor were Grayeline, Werling, and Brady. These boys did a fine job as they were outclassed by Green. Individual trophies will be given to “Nat” Noell for most ;points scored in the season. He averaged 9 points per game. Zan Fisher is the recipient of the sportsmanship award. The Dean Roberts’ Cup will be awarded to Green Hall for winning the All-Star game. Basketball season has begun in high spirits at Brevard. The Tornadoes have played six games thus far. After a slow start, the team has begun to show excellent results of their long hours of practice. Defeats Spartanburg; Warren Wilson a The Brevard College basket ball forces notched their fifth victory overall, and their second in Western Carolina’s Junior Col lege Conference competition Tuesday night defeating the Spartanburg College Pioneers, 86-72 at Spartanburg, S. C. December 7, 1963, v/as a bad day for Warren Wilson as they Jell before “Martin’s Bombers” 90-45. Brevard raced off to a 11 point lead before the Owls fin ally scored. Brevard rambled to a 16 point lead 23-7, and at this point Coach Martin sent in the second team. The second team scored 11 points to 7 for the Owls and the Tornadoes led at the half 34-14. Pete Peters scored 21 points, for the second straight game, to pace Brevard. Others in double hgures for the Tornadoes were David Cort 15, Sherman Fearing 11, and Junior Steelman with 14. Leahman Stanley had hit on 31 straight foul shots before he missed in the last half. The win brought the Tornadoes record to 4-2. BREVARD (90) — Stanley 9, Prevette 2, Nelson 6, Cabe 4, Cort 15, Peters 21, Schwab 6, Fearing 11, Steelman 14, Burch 2. WILSON (45) — Brackman 7, Elliott 14, Roberts 16, Farson 1, Pittman 7. The Mountain Lions, from Young Harris, came roaring into Brevard College, on December 5, but when they left they were mewing like a bunch of kittens. The Tornadoes had completely run the Lions off the court in breezing to a 77-51 win. This was only the second time in eight years that Brevard has defeated Young Harris. Overall, the whole team played Iheir best game of the year. Stanley and Pete Peters were high scorers for the Tornadoes. Peters scored 21 points to lead all players. The one who really stole the show was Stanley. Stanley, in playing his best game of his career, swished the nets for 19 poiints. Burch with 12 and Schwab with 10 points rounded out Brevard’s players in double figures. But when the buzzer sounded ending the game, the Tornadoes left the court with an 80-68 win over the Rebels. The first half saw both teams trade basket-for-basket and Bre vard leading at the half, 36-32, The Blue and White scored 28 points from the floor in the in itial half. Anderson made one last try to catch up when they pulled within three points. 68-65, with 5:00 to play. Larry Burch and Eddie Schwab stopped the threat. Burch hit a jump shot and Schwab a free throw to wipe out any hopes Anderson had of winning. BREVARD (80) — Stanley 16, Cort 8, Schwab 9, Peters 21, Steelman 18,8 Burch 8, Fearing. ANDERSON (68) — Cobb 6, Douthit 4, Ellis 10, Moody 3, Murrell 20, Acker 12, Tarte 7, Thurston 6. Furman Menace Furman continued to be a menace to Brevard as they took an 8549 victory off the Torna does on November 30. It was the fatal first half that struck the Tornadoes. Hitting on only five of 19 shots from the floor in the first 20 minutes the cagers retired at the half, down by 18 points 35-17. Leading scorers for Brevard were Pete Peters with 18, David Cort with 14, and Leahman Stanley with 10 points. However scoring honors went to Furman’s Mike Muth who tallied 33 points. Eddie Schwab led Brevard in rebounds with 12. Lose to Young Harris Traveling to Georgia, Brevard went down in defeat at the hands of Young Harris 79-66 in their first game on November 26. The loss brought the Torna does record to 1-1 at that time. However, the team won their first game of the season with Warren Wilson 88-85 on Novem- l)er 23.
