No, this is the ex-Campus Center Building in the process of becoming Dunham Music Center. Poll Reveals Quiet Dorm Too much noise in Jones Hall? The students don’t think so, as evidenced by this sampling of student opinions: Sophomore: There is some noise, but not too much. There real ly isn’t that much noise when you consider how many girls there are in the dorm. Freshman: I don’t think it’s par ticularly noisy, especially not during closed study. Third floor (where I live) is ad mirably quiet. Sophomore: It isn’t too noisy. If everybody would make noise, they wouldn’t notice the noise. Anyway, people who aren’t making noise aren’t paying any attention; they ex pect it. Freshman: The noise isn’t in the dorm, it’s outside on the side walks. I think the sophomores should just be warned. Sophomore: I have no com plaints. It’s a lot quieter this year than it was last year. PAT'S SHOE AAART College Shopping Center Lyda-McCrary Motors 314 N. Broad Street Your Ford Dealer Sledge Radio & T.V. 28 E. Jordan St. Brevard, N. C. Everybody’s settled down. Freshman; The only thing that bothers me is the chairs screeching. Sophomore: The noise (especial ly outside) is pretty bad sometimes, particularly on Sunday morning when you’re trying to sleep. Freshman: No, the noise hasn’t bothered me — we’re the noisy ones except during dos ed study, naturally. Sophomore: It seems rather noisy to me. I think it should be brought to the attention of the sophomores that they are being noisy in the halls and when going to the Soda Shop, but I think a warning should serve. Freshman: The noise in the dorm doesn’t bother me, but the noise from the music building does. In fact, sometimes it’s too quiet in the dorm. Listen my children and you shall hear of the foot-weary story of “Ashby Astaire.” The I afore mentioned personage is I only one of the many great ar tists you can see performing ev ery Tuesday and Thursday at S:00 a. m. in the loibby of the Gym. Mr. Fisher, the leader of the pack, has high hopes of his twenty - seven climbers learn ing to appreciate Brevard College formal dances. At the last performance, the famous dance team of Roberts and Corn demonstrated the cor rect method of tripping the light fantastic slowly. After this enlightning display of talents, ihe elite dance group received instructions of the rhumba. One of the important features of this Latin American dance is the shifting of weights. This is not a muscle building process. It is expected that nine or ten dances will be learned by the end of the semester and completion of the course. Good luck all you social pros pects. You may need it! This year, Phi Theta Kappa intends on becoming more ac tive as an organization. As a beginning, four major programs on education, church, business, and law have been planned. The first one will be held on Sep tember 27 at 7:30 p.m. Dean Har ris, the speaker, will discuss the topic of education. Future plans of the group al so include a plaque to be pre sented to the hall with the high est academic average, a party honoring the students who make the Dean’s List and Honor Roll at mid-semester and semester, and the sponsorship of Friday at Four.. John Brookshire, president of the organization, says that it is planned that officers will be sent to the National Convention this year. Though this, it is hop ed that Phi Theta Kappa will become one of the most active groups on campus.
