THE WEEK THAT WAS: The
signs tell the story. The scene is
last Thursday night on the BC Quad
rangle. This was the students’ hour
of glory, but it was short - lived.
The following Sunday evening, a
small group of students gathered on
the President’s lawn and shouted
-“We want freedom.” That did it.
The sincere efforts of those who
n arched cn Thursday were drown
ed out by the iddesponsible shouting
cn Sunday eve.

DEAN ROBERTS
TELLS IT LIKE IT IS "
Students at Brevard College met in the Auditor
ium on March 12 to discuss recent demonstrations on
campus. Dean Eston Roberts honestly and straight
forwardly stood behind the students, presenting both
che good and bad points of their freedom rallies.
As a result of the demonstration last Thursday
night, Dean Roberts stated that many positive things
came before the eyes of the administration which
had been presented several times before, both by
Dean Roberts and the S.G.A. Changes in library
hours, quality point deductions for chapel absences,
.he drinking rule, and women’s closing hours were
advocated.
The outcome of the March 7 protest was a meet
ing of a group of students with President McLa'’’*v
for an hour and a half on the following evening. t
:hat meeting the students were told by the Pre.sii
that he regarded many of their requests as valid. aiuL
that he would set up a meeting in his office where
matters could be discussed with interested students
and the Dean of Students. As a result of this meet>
ing, the President met with Dean Roberts on the
morning of March 9 and they set up an informal
meeting for the first part of the following week.
On Sunday afternoon a group of students, led
by the very members who had met with the President
on Friday evening, visited the President’s home with
placards and shouts of freedom. This demonstra
tion occurred long before it was humanly possible
for the adminstration to have taken any actions on
the earlier meeting. The President was naturally
angered, feeling that his time and good efforts and
the validity of his word were thrown back in his
face. He felt the students were demonstrating just
to be demonstrating.
So, now the President does not intend to take
any special action to get rules changed, and all ■pro
ceedings must go through the regular channels.
In light of the above actions,
made the following suggestions:
