This familiar building is shown above for our Homecoming season. For many years, all of the classes were conducted in thfis building. Hence, it has been called “the knowledige build ing” of Brevard College. Tlhiis bfUiilding was original ly known as Spencer Hail. It was erected in 1895 and was dedicated to Mrs. J. C. When the present Dunham Fine Arts Cen ter was construcited, the book- ^ffe and lounge were moved into it. then called the Campus Center Buildling. Ait this time, '*he Classroom Building became known as Dunham Hall, named for Mr. H. A. Dumlham, a prom inent Asheville businessman and philantropist who conitribuit- ed a quarter of a million dol lars to Brevard College. During the admiinistration of Mr. George Ehlhardt, Dunham Hall was almost tost in the en veloping flame® of a destruc tive fire. On a Friday afitemoon in the fall of 1950, fire b(raie out in Dunham Hall. This fire occurred during the redecora tion of the building just befwe painftanig was finished. The f^ Cjompilettely ruined the inside of the building. However, on the foUowing Sunday, fire broke out again and ruined the m- terior of the bualdlihg. It was closed all year for renovaM and was not reopened until tne following fall semester.
