4# 'Xyy /V X THE CLARION PAGE THRRB Miss Tillotson Will Instruct At Center The Marvelous Moser Is A Great Asset Miss Joan Moser, member of the Brevard College Music De partment, will be working on her Ph. D. in musicology at the University of Michigan next se mester. Miss Moser completed her un dergraduate work in music at the University of North Caro lina at Greensiboro. She was al so very active ir the drama De partment while there, helping to produce several Greek plays, as well as writing the back ground music for them. She received her Master of Music degree from the Uni versity of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She was also a Fulbright Scholar, attending the University of Oslo (Norway) during 1960-61. An extremely versatile per former and teacher, Miss Moser teatehes classical guitar, wood winds, pemissioii, miKic theory, and a music literature course. Miss Moser is in great de mand as a folk music perffonn- er, and is widely recognized as an authority on Appalachian i Folk Music. She performs on the guitar, banjo, lute, dulcimer and Japanese koto, as well as 1 vocally. Miss Moser has aipi>eared at MISS MOSER VOTE For The Candidate Who Cares About You. VOTE WAYNE LOTTINVILLE FOR President Of S.G.A. Miss Virginia Tillotson, Bre vard College faculty memlber, was recently chosen to teach at the Brevard Music Center this summer. She will be teach ing clarinet and music theory, and will be playing in the Bre vard Music Center Orchestra, the Opera Orchestra, and in the Connoisseur CJoncerfcs (cham ber music). Miss Tillotson had previous ly attended the Music Center several times, mostly during her teenage years. The talented Miss Tillotson is presently teaching woodwinds, directing the Madrigal Singers, and directing the Brevard Col lege (Concert Band. Last year she founded a group of vocalists and instrun mentalists known as the Tour ing Ensemible. She does all the arranging for this group wihich com'bines vocal and instrumen tal music. While completinig her mas ter’s degree at TJINIC, she was graduate assistant to Dr. Wil ton Mason, director of the In stitute of Fblk Music. She was also the consultant for the Na tional Educational Television series of eight programs en titled “Songs Out of the South.” While she was in Norway, Miss Moser made a compara tive study of Scandinavian folk lore and the Anglo - American traditions of the Southern Ap palachians. She also present ed American folk music throughout Norway under tiie auspices of the American Em bassy and was a,guest performer on both the Nonweigian and Swedish state radio systems. Of course, all this comes ra ther natural to Miss Moser. In her own words, “I followed on the coat - tails of my father.” Her father is Artus M. Moser, nationally - fam«d folklorist.
