LETTER TO EDITOR As a member of the Brevard academic com munity, I find the actions of the Dean of Student Affairs rather disturbing. The patrolhng of the men’s dormitories (by the dean) shows a definite lack of confidence and trust in the students. As maturing young adults, we, the students, should be given more responsibility over our own social behavior. The actions of the Dean of Student Affairs in this area can only breed distrust between the administration and the students. Many universities and colleges have established a working honor system concerning codes of behavior. If an honor system were to be established at Brevard, given time, students would most likely face up to the responsibility and respond in a positive manner. In all respect, however, the patrolling of the dormitories by the dean must stop if there is to be any open communication between the students and the administration. Don Coleman African Famine Relief l^ay December 10th, will be a very special day at Brevard College. It will be African Famine Relief Day on campus. Students, faculty, and staff are being asked to eat a sacrificial lunch in the cafeteria. Over a million people have starved in the Southern Sahara desert region in recent years. Contributions for the African famine relief program will be taken at the end of the left cafeteria line. This line will serve an “African Feast — Nearly our Fast” consisting of rice, broth, and tea. (The right cafeteria line will serve a regular meal for those who do not wish to par ticipate in this relief meal.) Please bring at least a dollar to contribute as you go through the left line. The administration will contribute the difference in cost for preparing a regular meal and The CLARION Brevard, N.C. 28712 Member of Associated Collegiate Press and Intercollegiate Pres.
