To some the Halloween spirit may not be so important, but to the BC students it means a time to shirk-off studies and have some fun. As usual, the cafeteria ladies surprised everyone with an overwhelming feast, augmented by orange table cloths and candlelight. I’m sure this was greatly appreciated by all, but the most fun was had in the women’s dorms as is the case each year. As is tradition, the girls dressed in strange costumes and trick-or-treated from room to room. Have you ever passed a beer can walking down the hall? There was everything from hillbillies to pregnant ladies. Let’s not forget Mickey and Minie Mouse either. It may be hard to realize that 18-20 year old college women spend hours preparing a costume to wear a holiday set aside for “kids”; but aren’t we all kids at heart? I personally had the time of my life; and I don’t mind saying that Halloween is one of my favorite holidays of the year. I guess it’s because I can act crazy without being thought of as such. Creativeness Encouraged A current drive to augment material of Brevard students to the school’s magazine, CHIASCURO, is in progress. Any prose or verse contributed will be screened and could be a valuable asset to the 1976 edition. Material can be remitted to Wes Sharpe, editor, Mr. Preston Woodruff, moderator, or brought to the staff on Tuesday evenings in the faculty lounge of the Administration Building. Take pride in your work and your school, and “Give the United Way.” Contributions can be donated anonymously, if so desired, so let’s not be reserved colleagues. The CLARION The CLARION Brevard, N. The alumni began to trickle in on Friday afternoon and the hugging and catching up continued all week end. They all seemed to be glad to be back at Brevard and the sophomores were especially glad to see them. Perfect fall weather was provided for Saturday af ternoon’s soccer game. The Tornadoes scored a 4-3 victory over Montreat-Anderson. Besides cheering the Tornadoes on, many Brevard fans were also listening to the Carolina - Notre Dame game. At halftime the homecoming court was presented by Tim Austin. The freshman class was represented by Karen Davis and Leecia Ballentine. The sophomore representatives were Diane Lance, Laura Smith, and Ellen McGimsey. The week-end was highlighted by the dance Saturday night in Dunham Auditorium. The music was provided by the Hot Smokin’ Brass. The theme was “An Evening in Autumn” and was carried out in the decorations. Laura Smith was crowned Homecoming Queen by President Davis and was presented roses by Ruffin Copeland. Sunday seemed to come too soon when the good-byes started. Everyone was making plans for “next time”. The sophomores only hope that they will be missed as much next year as last year’s were. What Keeps The Library Booming? The Brevard College Library seems to be well staffed this year. The head Librarian is Mrs. Jane E. Wright. She has one secretary. Miss Lois Galloway, two assistant librarians: Mrs. Jo Ann Bryson and Mrs. Mary Steven son. In addition there are two library assistants: Mrs. Priscilla Lyda and Mrs. Edna Bryson. The following are student helpers: Melodie Kladfelter, Bill Haire, Barbara Phillippe, Debbie King, Tom Hanks, Cindy Wentz, and Jane Law. There is an exhibition in the library under the direction of Mr. Fred Barkley. In the middle of the library there are many Letter To The Editor To the Editor; October 21,1975 About five weeks ago my wheels and tires were stolen off of my car as it sat in front of the Student Union Building. Up to now I have wasted $280 on the car and am near bankruptcy, already having to borrow $100. I must admit that if I had theft coverage on the vehicle, this letter would not be necessary. Even so, I feel this issue is a moral responsibility of the College. I have been told that there is no way for the school to absorb the cost of the incident, so I am appealing this decision. We all know how security has been preached on this campus since the day we arrived here, and this brings about questions in my mind: Where was the night watchman? Was he looking for a girl trying to sneak into the men’s dorm? Or was he trying to catch someone bringing beer on the campus? I feel that my personal loss of nearly $300 is directly due to the negligence of the campus security system. Any information or support of my appeal to the College will be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Gene Ellis beautiful and interesting pieces of artistic work. The exhibit includes Photos, Paintings, Batiks, Rugs, and Assemblages. Exhibits such as this contribute to the attractiveness of Brevard College. There is a new addition of furniture in the Brevard College library this year. Mr. and Mrs. Allen H. Sims gave a piano to the library in memory of Dr. Frank Jordon. Mr. Allen H. Sims is the chairman Emeritus of the Board of Trustees at Brevard. Dr. Frank Jordan was a Trustee of Brevard College. Dr. Jordan was educated at Duke University and Duke Divinity School. With Honorary D. D. from Pfeiffer College, Dr. Jordan became a Methodist Minister. He was a member of the Western North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Board of Trustees since 1950. Dr. Jordan died at the age of 70 on April 25, 1975. Big Sisters Have Party For Handicapped Ghostly and backbone chilling stories were told at the Halloween party for the cerebral palsy patients sponsored by the Big Sisters last Thursday, Oc tober 30. The Big Sisters once again are making progress in the community of Brevard by sponsoring parties for the palsy patients. Hopefully the Sisters will hold another party for the handicapped at Christmas. Besides telling scary stories, the Sisters played records, served refreshments, and gave out goody bags with Halloween candy and a surprise inside to each of the patients. The Sisters held two parties, one of the patients on the bottom floor and one for the elderly patients on the top floor.
