National Meet Tucson, Arizona :f: denotes Homecoming Cross Country Team Begins Busy Season BREVARD, NC - On Sep tember 17 the Brevard College cross country team competed in a 10-mile road race at Stone Mountain, Ga. and finished 4th with a total of 109 points. Brevard usually runs the 5-mile race at Stone Mountain, but elected to run the 10-mile with 180 runners, because of needed distance work. Tim Black led the Brevard road runners with a 9th place finish covering the 10-mile course with a time of 54:09, and second runner, Lee Davis, finished 17 with a time of 55:02. Other finishers for Brevard were John Traynor 22nd, Joe Beasley 29th, George Price 30th, Greg Boyd 34th, and Kevin Wood 38th. Brevard’s top seven men all brcdce 60:00 minutes for 10 miles. The team championship was won by Atlanta Track Club with 50 points. On September 20, the Tornados won its first duel meet of the season by beating Wingate College by a perfect score (rf 15 to 50. Brevard todc the first twelve places against Wingate. The t(^ finisher for Brevard was again freshman Tim Black, who covered the 5-mile course in 27:13. Lee Davis finished second with a time of 27:38. Other Brevard placers were David Hall 3rd, Kevin Wood 4th, John Traynor 5th, Greg Boyd 6th, David Skiba 7th, Mike Curtis 8th, Joe Beasley 9th, Robert Costner 10th, George Price 11th, and Kent Schweikert 12th. C. ) Conference team; and guard Fred Beasly was one of the leading scorer in eastern Ten nessee. Brent Whitener (6-7) and Jeff Sheets (6-8) should provide strength under the board. It is unfortunate, all coaches agree, that space precludes naming all of the players in volved in these programs, con sidering all of the hard work and effort they’ve applied. The remaining additions to the faculty are involved in Campus Security. The new security guards are Emory Winstead and Rick Gay. Mr. Winstead attended Persons Technical Institute and enjoys hunting and playing pool. Mr. Gay attends Furman University and enjoys all sports and watching television. Jackson Parkhurst was hired this summer by Brevard College to teach chorus and percussion. Leading this year’s squad will be two very talented young ladies who are returning from last year’s squad. They are Debbis Stevens, captain and Kim Richard, co-captain. The ’77 - ’78 sponsor is Mrs. John Meyerhoff. Priw to the tryouts there was a cheerleading clinic. Brevard welcomes back Debbie and Kim and wishes the best of luck to the new additions.
