Brevard Finishes Eleventh On April 8th, Brevard com- peted against many senior colleges while finishing llth at the Davidson Relays. The top performance for Brevard was turned in by David Hall, who finished second to Duke’s Jim Qayton in the 300 meter steeplechase. Hall’s time of 9:25.0 qualified him for the national junior college meet. The shuttle hurdle team, composed of Lamar Roberts, Tom Dehn, Gary Burkle, and Ricky Truitt, set a school record while finishing third in a time of 1:01.50. Chris Collins finished fourth in the javelin with a throw of 180’IG”, while John Dennis jumped 48'r’ in the triple jump for fifth place. Tim Black, bitten by a dog a couple of days before, had problems regaining his form and finished sixth in the 10,000 meters. Coach Norman Witek, running his first 400 meters of tl» season, finished second in the masters division with a time of 51.4. Track Team Bows ToWNC Brevard, N.C. — Brevard College kept pace with Western Carolina for 11 events but finally bowed to their depth with the final score of Western Carolina 91, Brevard 69, Wake Forest 51, U.T. at Chattanooga 30, and Emory and Henry 29. Brevard’s distance crew, which was neutralized by Wake Forest, relied heavily on good performances from the rest of the team. John Dennis had his greatest day with three personal best performances. In the long jump he placed 2nd with a jump of 23’0”, while a shuttling back and forth from the high jump finishing 3rd with a jump of 6’6”. With a little extra time Dennis settled down to take first place in the triple jump with a jump of 48’8”, good enough for a new school record. Brevard’s hurdle crew once again scored heavily, scoring a total of 20 points. Rickey Truitt again won the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 14.6, while win ning the 400 meter hurdles in 55.0. Other fine performances for Brevard were turned in by David Hall with a 4:02 1500 meters, Kevin Scott with a 14’ pole vault, Dirk Redwine with a 158.5 800 meters, and Gary Burkle’s 56.4 400 meter hurdles.
