CLEP Testing Dates
Are Scheduled
Brevard College offers its
students the opportunity to
earn college credit through
the College-Level
Examination Program
(CLEP). Anyone may take
CLEP tests to demonstrate
college-level competency, no
matter how or where this
knowledge was acquired:
formal study, private reading,
employment experience, non
credit courses, adult classes,
TV/radio/cassette courses,
military/industrial/business
training, or advanced high
school work. For students
already proficient in a certain
subject, an acceptable CLEP
test score not only gives them
full credit in the applicable
college course but eliminates
the time and cost of taking
such a course.
Some of the subjects offered
for examination are:
American History, American
Literature, Calculus, College
Algebra, College Algebra and
Trigonometry, College
Composition, French, Ger-
Spanish, English
Literature, General Biology,
General Chemistry, General
Psychology, Introductory
Accounting, Introductory
Business Law and Freshman
English.
Testing dates for this school
year are January 20 and April
17, 1979. Students must
register at least one month in
advance; tests are ad
ministered on campus. For a
complete listing of
examinations and related
information, students should
contact Mrs. Betty Buck,
McLarty Goodson 205.

Requesting
Volunteers
Do you seem to have a lot of
extra time on your hands? Do you
find yourself wishing that you
could be doing something
rewarding? Are you dreading a
winter filled with boredom?
If you can answer any of the
above questions in the af
firmative the Transylvania
Parks and Recreation Depart
ment has the perfect solution for
your problem.
Sue Sharpe, spokeswoman for
the department announces that
the Adult Day Care Program is
looking for young people from the
college community to help the
elderly.
The program will be run on a
volunteer basis. Areas which the
volunteers would assist in in
clude: writing, reading grocery
ads, understanding the banking
process and filling out income tax
forms.
The Department is also in
terested in historical stories
about this area.
For further information please
contact Mrs. Sharpe at 883-2050.
A general assembly dealing
with the subject of financial aid
for the 1979-80 school year is
scheduled for Wednesday,
December 13th, at 10:00 a.m. in
Dunham Auditorium.
According to Mr. Cunningham,
Director of Financial Aid for
Brevard College, there are four
major objectives to this meeting:
1. To distribute to all students
the financial aid forms which
must be filed in order to establish
a “need” for the 1979-80 school
year.
2. To provide a detailed ex
planation of the form and the
information which the form calls
for in order to help the students
avoid many of the mistakes
which were committed on
previous forms.
3. To provide an explanation
dealing with the filing of the
Federal Government’s BEOG or
Basic Educational Opportunity
Grant.
4. To cover the various sources
of financial aid in a student’s
financial aid package and their
renewal for the 1979-80 school
yeasr. This coverage will include
(but not be limited to) the
following awards and the
stipulations concerning their
renewal:
a. Scholarship Day Awards.
b. Citizenship Scholarships.
c. Dean’s Scholarships (for
merly Honors Scholarships).
d. Sims Scholarships.
The Financial Aid office would
like to emphasize that both
freshmen (returning next year as
sophomores) and sophomores
planning to further their
education at another educational
institution must file the proper
financial aid forms in order to
receive aid next year.
Brevard College is extremely
fortunate to have not only such a
successful financial aid program
but the type of well-qualified staff
that can make it tick.
According to Mr. Cunningham,
90- 95% of all Brevard College
students have ^ had their
established need either met or
the maximum amount of aid
available for them awarded.to
them.
Who’s Who Selected
Seventeen Brevard College
sophomores have been selected
for the 1978-1979 edition of Who’s
Who Among Students in
American Junior Colleges. From
a list of all eligible sophomores,
approximately forty-three

campus-wide election. The
faculty voted on these names and
the Honors and Awards Com
mittee gave final approval. The
members of this outstanding
group were chosen for their
academic achievement, service
to the community, leadership in
extra curricular activities and
future potential. They join an
elite group of students selected
from 700 institutions in aU fifty
states.
