Page 2 THE CLARION Tuesday, February 27,1979 Editorials Editor Speaks February A Bill Of Goods In case you all are interested February only has 28 days again this year. So if you were born on the 29th you are out of luck again. Actually, I’ve always thought that the whole idea of February having 29 days every four years was some kind of publicity stunt by the press agents in charge of promoting February. I mean the rhyme goes; 30 days has September, April, June and November, all the rest have 31 except February which has 28 and 29 in each leap year. Just think about the other 8 months which weren’t even mentioned in the jingle. Maybe you people don’t know it but Washington and Lincoln really weren’t born in February. That is just another lie the February people dreamed up to make their month look good. As for Valentine’s Day being in February...I ask a big capital WHY??? Couldn’t it just as easily have been placed in March or September? After all what do hearts and flowers have to do with cold February, (unless of course you are really far south, which you aren’t, so who cares?) Seriously folks I think we have all been fed a bill-of- goods about February. It isn’t all it is put up to be. February is snowstorms and freezing rain, winter depression and nasal drainage. I suggest that we forget about the month totally and take its twenty-eight days and add them to the beginning of December. That way the great wait to Christmas would seem even longer and the anticipation to that day would build up even more. Hats Off To... The carnations which Mr. Anderson sent to his workers on Valentine’s Day. Not only did they cheer up these ladies’ day but they also cheered others. The work done by Professor Sam Cope in preparation for B.C.’s spring production. The Curious Savage. All the work put forth by the annual staff to meet their deadline. Special recognition to Editor Mike Capps, assistant editor Clara Allen and Preston Woodruff, advisor. Tornado Room: Very Large Plus Have you been to the Tornado Room lately? Well if you haven’t THE CLARION feels you should try it. The Tornado Room (for those of you who haven’t noticed) is the campus snack bar. It is located in the S.U. and is open all day and until ten o’clock at night. If you’ve been to the greasy whatever or the house of pizza lately then you probably know that the price of fast food has gone up tremendously in the last year. One place where the students at B.C. can still get a hotdog, fries, and a drink for under a dollar is the Tornado Room. Not only is the food good...but the service is fast, the company good and the Tornado Room doesn’t have any of that strange piped in music. All in all THE CLARION feels that the Tornado Room is one very large plus on the B.C. campus and we urge students to frequent it. After all, it is right in your backyard so to speak. Vandalism A Big Problem by Debbie Willenborg Over the past few weeks many things have been destroyed by careless vandals on the campus. At the peak of the first major snow many got carried away with the snow balling and as a result windows were broken. A memo from Dean Wray seemed to calm this a bit, however, other in cidents concerning snow have occurred. Some members of the staff have awakened to see their cars within a mass of hand- packed snow. Other more serious vandalism has occurred since then. The personal property of faculty members and students have been destroyed. The property of some of the resident tutors has been seriously damaged, such as their apartments and cars. Also, the portrait of Mr. Emmett K McLarty which hung in McLarty Goodson seems to have mysteriously grown a mustache and obtained a sketched pair of glasses. This problem of vandalizing other's properly seems to be getting to be quite a problem and it doesn't speak to well of B.C. students as a whole. The ad ministration is not taking this lightly and there is every in tention of bringing it to a halt. Leaders Come Forward Somewhere among the rising sophomores at B.C. there has to be a great leader just waiting to step out of the crowd and take his/her place as head of the SGA. THE CLARION urges this individual (or in dividuals... who knows the campus might be full of great leaders) to come forward.
