Mullins Wins Metro Atlanta Dawn Mullins, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas E. Duren is the 1979 winner of Miss Metro Atlanta Teenager. She was chosen as Miss Congeniality and received honorable mention Citizenship Award and Com munity Service Award. The pageant consisted of 57 other girls who were judged on poise, personality, scholastic achievement, and beauty. Dawn received a full scholarship to Art Insitute of Atlanta, a full scholarship to Barbizon School of Modeling and all paid expenses to Miss Georgia Pageant in Macon, Georgia at Wesleyan College, May 4-6. As Miss Metro Atlanta Teenager, Dawn will travel around the state to make ap pearances in parades and schools. “As for the Georgia pageant in May, I need all the support and prayers from everyone. All I can hope for is that I put my best foot forward and do my very best. I know in my heart that with everything I have, my friends, the love of my family, and my good health — I am already a winner.” Congratulations and best wishes Dawn. r Masquers Elect New Officers Dawn Mullins and President Jake Martinson Loretta: ‘Everything is rush...rush’ A Loretta Perez-Borosso By Debbie Willenborg To wake up every morning is a hardship for everyone. Yet when I wake up, I hear the amusing babble of my Spanish roommate. When Loretta Perez Barosso wakes, she stumbles to the shower and her first impulse is to reach for the knob labeled C, which in Spanish stands for “caliente”, meaning hot. This is her startling daily reminder that she is no longer in Spain. Another routine that she finds hard to adapt to is the American way of eating, in the cafeteria, LiOretta can be spotted very easily. She’s the girl with tabasco and horseradish around her food that is blackened with pepper. Even in slow-paced Brevard, Loretta feels pushed. She claims, “In America, everything is rush ... rush ... rush.” She finds it hard to believe that Americans can enjoy a meal that is “grabbed from a window, eaten on the run. She can now call Americans her “amigos”. Probably one day I’ll go to Spain and visit my “amigo” Loretta and drink some “arribas” with her. OLE! B.C. Students Eligible for Internships Students at Brevard College who are planning to look for summer jobs may just be eligible for one of about 125 state government internships being made available this summer. “Thousands of students have gained better insight into the workings of government through the internship program over the years,” said Frank Eagles of Wilson, chairperson of the North Carolina Internship Council which was created by the Assembly in 1977. The council approves projects and also screens and selects students for the Summer Internship Program sponsored by the Department of Administration’s Youth In volvement Office. About 125 students will be placed in 13 different state agencies for 10 weeks, from June 4 to August 10. To be eligible, a student must be either a North Carolina resident who has completed two years of study in a college or university or one year of study in a technical institute or community college, or an out-of- state student having completed the same studies in a North Carolina educational institution. With the end of every school year, things come to an end. All the clubs are busy having their last meetings. The Masquers'. Club held its last meeting of the school year on April 18, 1979 at 6:00 p.m. in Dunham Auditorium Lobby. As old officers of the club fade away, new officers come into perspective. The newly elected officers of the Masquer’s Club for the 1979-1980 school terms are: Karen Meyers, president, Rodney Currin, A^ice president, Kate McCracken, secretary, Kathy Jones treasurer, and Steve Collins, activity coordinator. These new officers and old members of the club will make the Masquer’s Club one of the best clubs next The Masquer’s Club this past year has brought to the school a talent show, ushers for both the fall and spring productions, refreshments served at the Fall Production, a magic show, care packages, and a 50’s Day and Dance It is hoped that the student body enjoyed all these activities. The Masquers worked hard all year and will be taking a trip to Atlanta to see a drama production when school is out. The ex-president of the Masquer’s Club, Karen McCall, has really brought the Masquer’s Club a long way since her freshmani year. All this effort 'ould not have been possible it the club did not have such hard working members. year.
