Page 2 The Clarion March 3. lasi Clritormlisi Who Are We To Judge by Laura Gabel So often in our everyday lives we find ourselves judging other people. We tend to talk down others in order to make ourselves look better. In today’s society it is expected that each person measures up to the next one’s standards. Whatever happened to individualism? Each and every person is unique in his or her own way. , One day while I was sitting in the cafeteria next to a small group of people, I was absolutely intrigued at how many faults they found in anyone who happened to walk by the table. Everyone, including myself, is guilty of passing judgement on others. The point I am trying to get across is that we should be more conscious of what we say about others. So the next time you begin to make a negative remark about someone else, stop and put yourself in that per son’s place and you may just find that you don’t really need to be passing judgement so quickly. Letter To The Cheerleaders Dear Cheerleaders: Thank you for your dedication, responsibility, polished per formance and enthusiastic support to the athletes, but most of all thank you for your friend ship. It has been a happy and rewarding season for me because you are wonderful people as well as great cheerleaders. I have watched with pride and joy, the friendships you have developed with your fellow squad members this season and your genuine love and concern for each other is a tribute to you as individuals. I will always cherish the memory of the fun and good times we have shared this year, cheering, traveling, even running out of gas and being snow bound. It is hard to say good-by to our one sophomore, Walt, but I look forward to next year when so many of you will return to campus and I will have the op portunity of your close friendship for another year. Thank you for being you, and making it so easy for me to love you. Until next year, Martha Freshman Representation. . ' Do We Or Don’t We * On The Judicial Board By Bob Oakley Recently, the constitution committee voted to pass a section of the constitution concerning “freshman representation” on the Judicial Board. During that meeting, two key members against the move were unable to attend, one member being neel Lattimore, the Judicial Board Chairman. In protest of the move, Lattimore, during the next SGA meeting expressed his opinion and walked out with five others. When asked why he was against the move, Lattimore stated that the sophomores on the J-Board do not represent the sophomores but the student body as a whole. He believes that sophomores, with experience for one year, have a better per spective. Lattimore mentioned the main purpose of the J-Board is to interpret the rules of the college. Lattimore stated that with an increase in students on J-Board, there would be an increase of faculty personnel. This increase, Lattimore feels, would ‘slow down the process’ of the J-Board. When the committee chairman was asked why the vote was held with two key members absent, he only stated that he had made up his mind to hold a vote and that section of the constitution had been in committee too long. Lattimore points out that he has the support of many represen tatives behind him and they will vote the measure down when it reaches the assembly. This would hold back the constitution a minimum of one week. It would go back to committee and then be resubmitted to the assembly. Lattimore met with fellow J- Board members to gather views to present to the committee on the issue. Lattimore believes that most of the members of the committee had their mind made up. In another point, it is believed that having two freshman on J- Board would be an unfair ad vantage to future SGA office seekers. If one wanted to take the Judicial Board Chairmanship, he could use his time with the J-Bord as a stepping stone. Lattimore feels this would be a step back. He believes changing “all” board members every year keeps “fresh” ideas on the board. If you have any feelings on this issue, please express them to your SGA representative. The SGA works for students and doesn’t work without them. Applications for the position of Editor of the 1982 PERTELOTE are now available in Mrs. Chamlee’s office in the Administration Building.
