30-Day European Tour
While some students on campus find themselves lack
ing extra spending money (and the ideas to generate
some), freshman Beth Wahl has found a solution to this
problem: cutting and styling hair. Charging $4 for cuts
and $2 for trims, Beth averages about four cutting ap
pointments a week. “Now I have some extra money,
the stylist said. “And more and more people are coming
to me for appointments.” What’s the BC look? “Guys
ask for the ‘soccer look’ and girls like their hair
feathered,” Beth explained.

Matthews’Screen Screams

Newman Portrays Troubled Lawyer
“Excellent, Sensational, Mov
ing, A Triumph” - This is what
critics are saying about The Ver
dict. Paul Newman’s impressive
performance as an alcoholic at
torney makes The Verdict a
“must see.”
Lawyer Frank Galvin, forced
to leave his law firm because of a
scandal, has been reduced to am
bulance chasing, and has lost
every case in the past four years.
The film begins with Galvin
taking a case against Ar
chdiocese of Boston, whose
hospital staff gave the wrong
medication to a young pregnant
woman, leaving her in a coma for
life.
Newman supported by a great
cast. James Mason makes an ex
cellent prosecuting attorney and
villain; Jack Warden is the
lawyer and friend who helps
Galvin. Miles O’Shea is the un
sympathetic judge who stacks
the odds against Galvin.
Charlotte Rampling is the
mysteroius woman who appears
in Galvin’s life.
For years Paul Newman has
been working hard for star status
with films like Butch Cassidy,
Hud, The Sting, Cool Hand Luke,
and Absence of Malice. These
films were all great, but never
gave Newman the one thing that
would let him know that his work
meant something more than just
an entertaining night.
That one thing is the Academy
Award, the golden idol, the
“Oscar”.
All that work may have finally
paid off The Verdict has secured
Paul Newman a nomination in
this year’s Academy Awards.
BEST FRIENDS
Burt Reynolds and Goldie
Hawn combine their talents in
Best Friends, as they shed their
cowboy hats and army boots to
become lovers.
The warmest and caring film of
the season, set in a Tracy and
Hepburn style of comedy-
romance, gives us Reynolds and
Hawn as two screenwriters. They
have lived together for five years
when suddenly he decided on
marriage.
Both actors show the concern,
love, and friendship that two peo
ple share.
Best Friends will keep you
laughing, and interested
throughout and it will leave love
in your heart and the feeling of
sharing it with someone.
