Win nth , Region Title By Eddie Tadlock The Brevard College soccer team won the NJCAA Region X Championship for the 11th time in 14 years, ending its season with a record of 10-4-1. By winning the regular season, the Tornados were seeded first in the Region X Tournament over two nationally ranked teams, Spartanburg Methodist College, which was ranked 9th, and Anderson College, which was ranked 11th. In the Region X Tournament, Brevard beat Montreat-Anderson and Spartanburg Methodist to qualify for the District tourna ment held in Deland, Florida. TORNADO Women’s Cross Country Small But Effective Team By Andrea Braymiller Sophomore Patty Jones and freshman Becky Shore make up this year’s Brevard College Womens Cross Country Team. Due to the outst^anding support of Coach Dave Rinker and also of Coach Witek, the girls have had an overall good season. The girls have gone through immense training such as morn ing swims and afternoon runs. The tough training prepared the girls for a meet at N.C. Dean and Mrs. Scar borough will take a group of students into three areas for a week of fun, sun, and snow. Op tion one is for the recreational skier and involves no class work. Therefore, no credits are given. Option two is for the beginning skier. Skiing lessons will be given from an hour to an hour and a half each day. At the end of the week students will be given a written test and also a skills test to determine the grade earned for this course. Option three is called Multi Mountain. This activity is advanced skiers and consists of three days of instruction a1 Ap palachian Ski Mountain and two days at either Sugar or Beech Mountain Ski Resorts. There will also be written and skills ex aminations to determine if credit is earned for the course. Both option two and option three will count as an one-hour ac tivities course if a high enough grade is earned. Winning Ways On October 27, the Brevard Col lege cross country team defeated the University of Tennessee JV’s by a score of 20-43 and the Univer sity of North Carolina at Charlotte 19-44 for its 47th and 48th consecutive victories. The team has not lost a dual or triangular meet since 1977. Brevard put together another fine team effort as only 21 seconds separated the top five runners. The Roadrunners were led by Glenn Roach who finished 3rd with a time of 25:04. Roach was followed closely by team- mates Patrick O'Grady, who finished 5th with a time of 25:14; Charlie Purser, who finished 6lh with a time of 25:16; Henning Brandt, who finished 7th with a time of 25:22; Winston Brown, who finished 8th with a time of 25:25; Rodney Curry, who finish ed 9th with a time of 25:36; and David Coulter, who finished nth with a time of 25:50. Theseseven men will represent the Roadrun ners in the National Champion ships in Twin Falls, Idaho, on November 10.
