Sunday, August 25,1985 Numbe^ Sunday, August 25,1985 Dr. William Greer, Jr. Named BC President Dr. William Thomas Greer, Jr. has accepted the office of Presi dent of Brevard College. Dr. Greer, 43, will assume the posi tion on September 1. The appointment of Dr. Greer comes after a ten-week search by a specially created selection committee under the direction of Trustee Board Chairman, Johnie H. Jones, of Charlotte. Jones said, “The committee is par ticularly pleased with its selec tion. Dr. Greer has outstanding academic credentials, a distinguished professional and civic record, and is a proven leader in the field of higher education. We believe he is the man of the hour for Brevard Col lege.” Dr. Greer presently serves as President of Andrew College in Cuthbert, Georgia, a position he has held for the past five years. Andrew College is a two-year Methodist affiliated school. A graduate of Valdosta State Col lege in Valdosta, Georgia, Greer holds a Master of Divinity degree from Drew Theological Seminary and a Doctor of Sacred Theology ^ from Emory University. Dr. Greer will complete a Ph.D. in Higher Education from Georgia State University later this year. In addition, he has served as Biblical Research Assistant with Professor William Barclay at the University of Glasgow, Glasgow, Scotland; and has completed specialized study at the Harvard University Institute for Educa tional Management. Dr. Greer is a noted lecturer and is author of numerous ar ticles, publications, and a book entitled, “A Theology of Mar riage,” published by Emory University in 1977. He has receiv ed citations and awards including being named the Most Outstan ding Two-Year College President in America by Phi Theta Kappa National Honor Society in 1983. As eighth president of Brevard College, Dr. Greer succeeds Dr. Jacob C. Martinson, Jr. who was recently appointed President of High Point College in High Point. An ardent athletic admirer. Dr. Greer launched a baseball pro gram and a cross country team for men and women at Andrew. He is married to Fann Dewar Greer and they have three sons, William, Robert, and David. Dean of the College Morris G. Wray has this to say about Dr. Greer. “I know Dr. Greer per sonally, and I can assure you that the search committee made an excellent choice. In fact, it is hardly conceivable that they could have made a better choice; and I, personally, have never been more excited about Brevard than I am today....
