The college is not wishing to expand this program, but they do wish to improve the program. The most common type of lear ning disability here on campus is dyslexia. Dyslexia is the disabili ty to read correctly. Quite capable of learning, dyslexias need help understanding the material first. Albert Einstein had dyslexia, but with help he learned very well. All over the country there are experiments being done for peo ple with dyslexia. In California teachers tried using the word pro cessor to help students. At Brevard College, the dyslexias invert their letters and the new word speller program helps students to spell correctly. Besides the word speller, other help is available in tutors, people to check notes and books that have been recorded for the people with dyslexia. Although the learning disabili ty program is not highly publiciz ed, it is in existence at Brevard College and is a very important aspect. New Courses Added In Theater, Economics And Computer Science 11 _ l.«4- Rpif 1 5 by Andrea Ross Three new courses are being of fered at Brevard College this fall, according to Dean Wray. These courses are: Theater 105 - Technical Theater: Sound, Economics 200 - Introduction to Economics, and Computer Science 202 - Data Structures. For students interested in lear ning how to operate sound equip- , ttient, Theater 105 (Technical Theatre: Sound) is being offered. There is a need on campus for people who are experienced with setting up sound equipment for plays, dances, storm cellar, con certs and activities in Dunham Auditorium. This course fills that need. The course is also being in troduced to help students serve the community, and let them gain experience in this field if it is their desired career. Mr. Joe Jackson is the instructor. Economics 200 (Introduction to Economics) is available to liberal arts majors. This course^ which is taught by Mr. Fisher, in volves a rapid review of economic essentials. Computer Science 202 (Data Structures) has been added to supplement the computer science sequences. CSC 200 helps make the computer science program “what a program of studies should be,” says Dean Wray. This new course, taught by Dr. Wetmore, is a recommended ele ment in the CSC sequence. Pops Concert And Choir Set For Sunday, Sept. 29 by Teresa Shaw The Collegiate Singers and the Concert Band are presenting a pops concert on Sunday, September 29th, at 3 p.m. on the lawn in front of Dunham Auditorium. The Collegiate Singers under the direction of Hugh Floyd will perform “Georgia on My Mind,” a medley of songs from “South Pacific,” “Everybody Rejoice,’ ’and others. The Concert Band under the direction of Steve Kelly plans to play selections from “A Chorus Line,” “Stars and Stripes Forever,” “The Typewriter” and many more. Steve Kelly got the idea to have the pops concert because of similar ones done at the Brevard Music Center. Those concerts had an informal setting and have been very successful. With less than a month to prepare their songs, both groyps are working very hard. Mr. Kelly would like to extend an invitation to the public and the student body to pack a lunch, arrive early, and enjoy the music. This is a Life and Culture event, and in case of rain will be moved inside of Dunham. Clarion Honors Spring Dean’s List & Honor Roll Academic excellence is the goal of Brevard College.
