Page 4 The Clarion i>ioveiiiiM;r a, i»oo Mikal Peveto glad to be back at Brevard by Misty Phillips His reason for returning to Brevard Col lege is plain and simple. Mikal Peveto loves Brevard. A native of Corpus Cristi, Texas, Peveto graduated from Brevard College in 1983 and went on to the University of Southern Alabama where he received his bachelor’s degree in Special Education. "I came back because 1 wanted to work at Brevard. I love it! I think they've done more for me than I could ever do for them," Peveto said. Peveto is an admissions counselor for Brevard College. According to Peveto. his job is to "be Brevard College in Florida” and since approximately 30 percent of the student body is from Florida, his job is a big one. "I go into a school and market Brevard College. I meet with 15 or so high school students and tell them what we have to of fer them and they tell me what they have to offer us." Peveto said. While he was a student at Brevard Col lege. Peveto ran cross-country under Coach Witek on the first national cham pionship team and was also an All- American. "Coach Witek had a big in- flunce on me coming back He made me realize thal I can do other things besides run." Peveto said. The best quality of the Brevard College staff is unity, according to Peveto. "At Brevard College I'm part of a team. I like that concept. 1 think it is a lot easier to be a team than an individual and Brevard does that." Peveto said. Peveto also feels there are more good things about Brevard College today than when he was here. "Everything is new, the president, the dean, the new faculty. It’s neat. I think it s great that the president is walking around the campus, " Peveto said "These people are here for them and that IS the greatest thing about Brevard Col lege” "Its hard to tell students how much they’ll appreciate this place some dav ” Peveto said □ 1 Brevard College plans annual Phon-a-thon by Bonnie Davis Brevard College will be holding its fifth annual phon-a-thon to EC alumni to raise money for the student scholarship fund on Nov, 17-20 and Dec. 1-4. This year’s goal is to reach a mark of $40,000. An ice cream social, organizational meeting was held last Wednesday, Oct. 29, to talk about the purposue of the phon-a- thon, techniques on how to handle the calls, intended goals, and prizes awarded to participants who volunteer their time, Sally Gunther, alumni director, said, “The nice part about the phon-a-thon is that a student who participate will be working to raise money for a scholarship that might have made of possible for them to attend Brevard College, too.” Prizes will be awarded to those students who collect the greatest total of donation pledges. Another bonus is that for each night a student works, he will be allowed a free, three minute phone call anywhere in the continental U.S. Also, a candlelight dinner will be held for those hwo work at least two nights. The phon-a-thon will be held on the above dates in the conference room of the Beam administration building. Ten phones will be set up and each need to be manned every night if the goal of $40,000 is to be reached. Training sessions will be held tonight in the President’s dining room and again on Wednesday, Nov. 12, to show volunteers how to handle calls.
