Jones Library in troduced its new INFOTRAC system. According to the Director of the Library Mike McCabe, the new reference system, called the ACADEMIC INDEX, on the IN FOTRAC system, indexes 375 periodicals and journals in the Humanities, Social Sciences, and General Sciences and also indexes the New York Times. Now leasing the ACADEMIC INDEX through April 1989, Jones Library plans to take money out of its budget to pay for the computer. The library still receives the latest equipment and software while the library is leasing the INFOTRAC system. “INFOTRAC is a multi-disciplinary in dex,” says McCabe. “It indexes current issues in art, literature, religion, psychology, science, politics, and many other areas.” INFOTRAC also indexes consumer reports and graded reviews of books. A questionaire is asked to be filled out by the users of the INFOTRAC system. Some of the comments say that it is much faster and easier than looking it up in the card catalog. One BC student says. “This is the second time I’ve used this, and it’s still great.” “It’s very helpful,” says sophomore art major Kelly Brannon, “and if they don’t keep it, I’ll be very upset.” Matt French says that “it helped out with a paper, and I even got an A on it.” The INFOTRAC system is updated once a month with new disks sent from the In formation Access Company, which owns the trademark system. According to McCabe, this marriage of laser disc with a small computer has revolutionized library research. The system, which was installed this fall, has already seen heavy use by BC students do ing research papers. PTK inducts 34 students on Jan. 25 On Wednesday, Jan. 25, PTK inducted 34 new members. Most of you are head ed for the beaches but a carefully selected group of BC students are going to Durango, Mexico, for Project Inside-Out, to help those in need. Sybil Dodson is the project coordinator and over Christmas break she went down to Mexico to look over the area. “1 was able to sit down with key people and make plans together.” said Sybil. “The team will get a sense of the real “authentic Mexico.” All those involved with Project Inside- Out believe that this trip will be a very valuable learning experience. “It will build character,” said Penni Todd, “and it will also build a special awareness for sharing and helping others.” Jennifer Wells replied that “it gives me the oppor tunity to better myself as a person by working with people who are less fortunate than many of us.” When the students return to BC, they will be able to share their experiences with the student body. What kind of reaction should we get out of this? “Feedback to the students,” said Dan Miller, “will be a positive influence on what Brevard College is starting.” President Greer has great expectations for this trip. “The Mexico trip,” explained Greer,“symbolizes in a real way, the laun ching of a service component for our students that I think will l>ecome a model for colleges all around the country.” College Bookstore Know of a Special someone? According to Lisanne Masterson, finan cial aid director,a student can pick one up in Beam Administration building room 204. This year the award letters will be sent out differently. In the past the award let ters were not sent out until the $50 preregistration fee was paid. Now when the student is accepted to Brevard College the award letter is mailed, according to Masterson. It is best to have your completed income tax information completed before you file, says Masterson. “Students from North Carolina need that specific form because the information is sent to state agencies,” Masterson point out. “All types of need-based financial aid assistance are determined by this form,” says Masterson,
