Coach Doug Rogers observed, “I look

Katie Trexler knew she has hot Tuesday
night against Lees-McRae, but she didn’t
know till after the game that her 42 points
had set a new a Brevard College scoring
record.
When the swing guard freshman from
Rockwell, N.C., was told what she’d done,
she “went hysterical!” she said the next
day, recalling the 77-73 victory.
Her 42 points came from some pretty
phenomenal shooting; 5 for 11 from two
point range, 10 for 12 from 3-point range,
and two for two at the free throw line. “But
I wasn’t keeping count,” said Trexler. “It
was very relaxed to me — and it felt good
because the team went in wanting to win it,
and that’s the kind of game I love.”
The Lady Tornadoes led all the way, but
never with a resounding lead. Trexler said
the ho.- Unw nf f>r>ntest, “man to
man, fast break — and let me shoot the
3-pointer,” she said.
At halftime she had 29 points and in the
second half the Lady Bobcats went to a box
and one defense which usually frustrates
rexler. But not this time, she said.
The old school record for single game
scoring was 38 points.
“She was super,” said Coach Tom Rad
ford. “It was just a phenomenal perfor
mance and she was confident and ex
hibited court presence. And the rest of the
team did a good job too. Tonja Barksdale
was the point guard and was responsible
for getting the ball to her, so Tonja really
ran the ball well.”
Trexler agreed. “I really think the team
was proud of me — but I couldn’t have
done it without them,” she said.
Hot-handed Katie Trexler set a new school scoring record of 42 points
against Lees-McRae.
