R ecords fall at Clemson track meet
from BC NewH Bureau
Freshman high jumper Dan Watson tied
the school record and freshman shot putter
Beth Richter set a new record at the Feb. 3
Clemson Invitational meet.
Richter, the only woman competing for
Brevard College at the Clemson meet,
hurled the shot 33 feet, 4 inches for a new
BC mark. Of the Chattanooga freshman,
Coach Dave Rinker said, “Beth is making
real progress. That was a two-foot im
provement for her. She’s great to work
with.”
Watson’s 6’10” leap ties the school’s high
jump record. The Greenwood, S.C.,
freshman had qualified the week before to
jump in the NJCAA nationals in March.
BC took a partial team to Clemson,
Coach Rinker said, in order that the rest of
the team rest up for the Virginia Tech
races on the llth.
Other results from Clemson; Geoff
Moore won his section of the 800 meter

of the 3,000 with a 8:45.2, and Kevin Robin
son was 7th in the men’s shot with a put of
42 feet, 8 inches to become the 10th best
thrower ever at BC.
Coach Rinker commented, “I was very
pleased with Dan, Geoff and Rob. They are
competing really well. Dan’s steps were
off and yet he’s adjusting and hanging in
there. That’s the key in athletics and life:
adjust and hang in there. It’s not always
easy and simple. (Jeoff and Rob ran smart,
tough races.”
