Usually built with lumber and secured with strong nuts and bolts, lofts leave more precious space for chairs, tables, televi sions, stereos, refrigerators and sofas. Most of the lofts on campus were built by parents or were bought from graduating students the previous year and put in storage over the summer. According to sophomore roommates Kelly Brannon and Mae King, they had planned every little tidbit of the room over the summer. “Utilizing space is the most important thing,” says Mae, “We wanted it to look comfortable with a laid back at mosphere.” “I see it (the room) as a three dimen sional canvas,” says Kelly, “and I can do with it whatever I want.” Lofts are a great way to make more space, but what goes in that space? There are some essentials that many students on campus say are important. Carpeting is a good way to brighten up the room. Some rooms on campus feature wall-to-wall carpeting as freshmen Felicia Jacobs and Susan Smith’s room, while many others use carpet remnants to add color and spice up the room. Another essential item located in most dorm rooms is the refrigerator for snacks in between classes or that late night crav ing for food. Some students rent refrigerators from the college, while ■ others buy the bar-size refrigerator for future years. Whatever the case, students find a refrigerator convenient for the early morning breakfast in the room so you can catch a few more winks. Other things located in students’ rooms on the BC campus include sofas, director’s chairs, colored throw pillows, posters of their favorite rock groups or a nice print, oodles of pictures of their friends and fami ly, and the always needed microwave. There is no such thing as a typical dorm room atBC
