The Brevard College girl's
basketball team has had a rough couple
of weeks. The Lady Tornadoes were 2-
5 during that stretch, with wins coming
over Spartinburg-Methodist and
Reinhardt at home and four straight road
losses to Anderson, Louisburg, Peace,
and Chowan.
At home against Spartanburg-
Methodist on Jan. 23, the ladies of
Brevard coasted to an 82-65 win. BC
was led by Paula Crowe's 20 points.
Monica Cameron added 10 points, and
Kim White and Daphanie Bousum
chipped in with nine.
The Lady Tornadoes won the Jan. 26
game at home against Reinhardt on pure
emotion. After the suspension of four
players, the girls won an inspiring 86-
75 ballgame, Katie Trexler led the way
with 22 points, while Kim White added
15 and Tiffani Thompson and Ann
Norman added 11. Coach Radford said
that the game was "definitely won on
emotion, and you just can't do that for
long."
The coach was correct on that
statement as the went on a four-game
losing road trip. Against nationally-
ranked Louisburg on Jan. 27, the ladies
were whipped by an "awesome team"
said Radford, 108-64. The Tornadoes
were led by Katie Trexler, who tossed in
23 points, Kelia Lynch and Kim White
added 16 and nine respectively.
At Anderson the women played a lot
bcUer in a 65-62 loss on Jan 30.
Christy Gibbs scored 14 points, Sharon
Heatherly chipped in 11 and Daphanie
Bousom tossed in nine.
The ladies' next game saw them
battle against Peace College on Feb. 2.
The Tornadoes lost a close to Peace, 67-
61. Katie TrexlCT had an excellent game
with 25 points, eight assists, and three-
three pointers. Daphanie Bousum
chipped in 11 points and 12 rebounds.
Brevard didn't fair so will against
Chowan on Feb 3. The Chowan ladies
defeated the Lady Tornadoes, 80-56.
Katie Trexler again led the team with 16
points and nine rebounds. Daphanie
Bousum also added 16 points and nine
rebounds. Christy Gibbs added 12
points and six rebounds.

Are you one of those people who
love to scream and cheer at BC athletic
events. If so, maybe you should enjoy
what you do by joining the BC
cheerleading squad.
Sponsored by Amanda Battle, the
squad is led by Dino Locklear on a
purely volunteer basis.
Tryouts are already underway, and
six people will represent BC's spirit
when the final team is announced on
March 19.
Locklear says, "We have 10 girls
and two guys trying out so far, but we'll
limit it to the best six whether they are
male or female."
The candidates have been working
out in the weight room and practicing
cheers four times a week. "We may be
kind of rough at first," Locklear added,
"but we will be on top by next fall."
The squad will cheer mostly at BC
basketball and soccer games, and will
also visit area high schools and nursing
homes.
Anyone interested in trying out
should see Amanda Battle or Dino
Locklear before March 9.
