A Field of Dreams...
Brevard College has "A Field of
Dreams" coming true.
And for Rick Robinson, it’s a
shared dream.
Robinson was named Brevard
College's new baseball coach this week,
in a joint announcement by BC
President Billy Greer and Athletic
Director Dave Rinker.
"Brevard College is happy to be
able to have someone like Rick
Robinson to restart our baseball
program," said Rinker. "Not only does
he have an excellent coaching record,
but his energy and local ties should
definitely get our program off in the
right direction.
Brevard College's reactivated
baseball team will see its first action in
the fall of 1991. The new coach’s first
duties will be to recruit a team and to
oversee the building on a baseball Held.
Robinson, a Brevard native and
Brevard High School graduate, served as
head baseball coach for three years at
Pisgah High School of Canion. His
final year there, he took the Bears to the
W.A.C. championship and was named
the Coach of the Year for the
conference.. His overall high school
coaching record is 40-26.
Coach Robinson is excited about
his new duties, which begin officially in
June. "This has always been my
ambition," he said, "lo coach a college
baseball program - and to have it and
start it like a renaissance in your own
home community — it's just
outstanding.
Robinson played both football and
baseball for Brevard High, Mars Hill in
addition to starring with the Ap
palachian State University Southern
Conference (baseball) champs in 1984.
He earned his bacehlor's degree from
ASU in physical education.
When it comes lo recruiting, the
new BC coach says he believes in the
athletic ability of the young men of the
region.
"I really think many great young
athletes from Western North Carolina
are overlooked many limes ," he said. "I
intend to concentrate my recruiting in
this region."
Already looking at area high school
juniors. Coach Robinson said, "I hope
Brevard College will be a place where
young men can come and develop their
baseball abilities and further their educa
tion to the four-year level."
When it comes to goal-setting.
Coach Robinson isn’t shy. "My number
one objective is for Brevard College's
baseball program to become one of the
outstanding baseball programs in the
nation," he vowed.
But first, there's got lo be a place to
play-

Standing in his "Field of Dreams," Brevard
College's new baseball coach Rick Robinson says
it may not look like home now, but just wait til
this summer when grading should start on the new
diamond. The Pisgah High School coach has been
hired to start BC's baseball program. The first
pitch is scheduled for fall 1991. (BC photo by

The most logical site for the new
baseball field seems to be where the
College's Christmas trees are now
growing. As a result, the College is in
the process of selling those white pines
as quickly as possible so that the
grading and seeding can happen this
summer.
