In order for the new student union to be kept nice fw future use, there
are a few guidelines to be observed, according lo Student Affairs.
The entire building is a smoke-free facility.
Food and drinks are permitted in the Commuter Lounge and Snack Bar.
The Commuter Lounge is available for Commuter Students and their
guests.
The conference room is open for all student groups and organizations
providing the sponsor is present. All faculty and staff members have access
to the conference room. Groups must schedule the use of the conference
room through Paige Johnson in the President's Office, Beam Administration
203.
Kiosks have been built and provided on campus (one in Coltrane and
one in Myers Dining Hall) for posters and notices. The kiosks are open to
everyone. Please remove posters as soon as they are out-dated or place a
removal date in a lower comer so someone else may feel free to remove your
poster. Outdated posters will discourage interest and impair the effectiveness
of all announcements.

A jury will be selected at random from the aud^en« ^
with reaching a verdict after reviewing the arguments
"State vs. Garrison” is co-sponsOTcd by Student Health Services and
the Student Government Association. The judge for the Mock Rape Trial is
Hon. Robert S. Cilley, District Court Judge for the 29lh District The
prosecuting attorney will be Transylvania County Assistant District Attor
ney, William J. Cathey III. The attorney fw Che defense will be played by
Brevard attorney WilUam R. White. BC Public Safety Officer and RD Greg
Dill will play the bailiff.
Main cast members in the Mock Rape Trial include; Jenny, played by
SGA Vice President Joyea Warren, who is to claim that Mark, played by
RA Derrick Briggs, assaulted her against her will. Other cast members
include; Angela Williams as the detective, and students Anna Paez, Jeff
Yellen, Brian Mendenhall, RA Mary Wise, and BC staff member Lin Red
mond as witness and friend. Transylvania Community Hospital Nurse Prac
titioner Juanita Butterworth will play the doctor. An additional player is
needed to fill the part of the pastor.
A panel will be on hand while the jury deliberates to elaborate and
answer questions on the causes and effects of rape. That panel will consist of
Steve Woodson, Sally Farmer of the Hendersonville Rape Crisis Center, and
Cynthia Shaffer of the Buncombe County Rape Crisis Center.
This mock trial will be a portrayal and not an actual trial. Those
participating in it are actors and therefore possess no real personal invol
vement in any actual or similar issues. Any similarity to any individual or
institution is unintentional.
ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS GROUP FORMING
The BC Environmental Awareness Group (EAG) will start up again
this month with Dr. Jeffrey Llewellyn and Qyde Carter serving as co
advisors.
Dr. Llewellyn is the Chairman of the Division of Math and Science,
and his office is located in MS 205. Clyde Carter is BC's instructor in
recreation, and his office is in BG 202. Look for upcoming announcements
and posters concerning projects and meeting times.
CASH YOUR CHECKS AT THE BOOKSTORE
The campus bookstore is now the place to cash checks. Previously,
students could cash checks at the BC Business Office.
Personal checks written for cash as well as two-party checks will be
accepted, such as paychecks, work-study checks and checks from home.
Checks written for cash over the amount of purchase will also be accepted.
Checks for over the amount of purchase are to be made out to College
Bookstores of America, as usual. Checks written for cash only must be
made out lo Brevard College.
The limit fw cash obtained with any type of check is $100.
A further note; the campus bookstore has extended its Saturday
opening hours until 3 p.m.
"PLAN IT FOR THE PLANET"
Jones Library is participating in National Energy Awareness Month, as
designated by the U.S. Department of Energy. Displays as well as lips on
how individuals can "Plan It For the Planet" will be in the library all during
the month of October.
COACH RAD SHOWS ’EM HOW
Brevard Men's Basketball Coach Tom Radford is conducting a special
clinic for basketball coaches at BC. Sept. 22-23.
Radford says he expects 25 coaches from five slates lo attend the ses
sion to learn about "Turning Slumps Into Streaks" and "80%; Shoot Foul
Shots Better Than the Pros."
The coaches, many of whom are college mentors, also will get a
chance lo see the BC Men's Basketball Team in action during a workout
and scrimmage, says Radford.
PICK UP YOUR MUGS
Students who sent pictures to the Office of Public Information for um
in ihe Campus Directory may come and pick them up if they wish. The pic
tures wUl be available from Assistant Un Redmond on weekdays between
8;30 a.m. and 4;30 p.m. The Office of Public Information is located on the
first fioor of the Beam Administration Building, around the comer from the
receptionists office.
