On Monday, Sept. 17, BC had its first rockclimbing club meeting. Over 20 people showed up, which surprised President Frank Garret. Also seven girls, one from Brevard High School, and a faculty member attended. All of the club's officers expressed that they were pleased with the tum-ouL The club's advisor, Clyde Carter, and the officers discussed the future plans of the club with the new members. The main objective of the club this year is to raise money to build an artificial climbing wall on campus. The main funding of the wall will come from the $20 membership dues, but other fund raisers are planned in the future. Along with the wall, the club plans a possible trip to the Atlanta Athletic Center to cUmb on their multi million dollar artificial wall. Also, the club plans numerous trips out to local rocks, as well as clinics for the less experienced climbers in the club. The club will also be keeping up with environmental issues as well. Its members will be doing mandatory trail maintenance in climbing areas. Also this trail maintenance counts for Project Inside Out hours as well as hours for points, however this only applies to its members, so if anyone is interested they need to contact Frank Garret in Taylor basement or Clyde Carter in the gym. The club will also be issuing I.D. cards for its members. These cards will allow them to buy equipment from local outfitters at a discounted rate. The club will also be having guest speakers come in and help out with the club, and there are tentative plans for the club to help kids out at local camps in their learning of the sport. back row: Heidi Kaiser, Lennie McClellan, Tara Harding, Jennifer McMaster, Linda Hunt, Jennifer Keltner, Samantha Griffiths, Nikki Thompson, Laura Clark and Coach Joe Bartlinski. li Colleen Runion takes it to a Meramec player during the Fall Classic victory. Ladies lose one, win one, in recent action by Scott Grubbs Clarion Reporter BC women's soccer team traveled to Banner Elk Saturday, Sept. 22, to face Region X rival Lees-McRae. The 4- 1 Tornadoes lost the game 2-1 in overtime. "We had some opportunities to win late in the game," commented Coach Joe Bartlinski. The score was tied 1-1 when sophomore Hiedi Kaiser's goal shot hit the crossbar and apparently hit the line but was ruled no goal. The weather was tough, too. Strong winds and cool temperatures made it rough to play. "It was tough to lose but I'm glad it came early in the season; we can learn from this and regroup," said Coach Bartlinski. "The ladies know that they didn't play their best and we still almost won. They are a great group to work with. We will become even stronger after this."
