(Clarion photo by Lin Redmond) Basketball teams open tomorrow in doubleheader When Brevard College’s 1990-91 basketball season opens tomorrow night, there will be as many new faces as there will be high hopes. Both the men’s and women's teams have new coaches: Tom Radford for the men’s team and Jimmy Tilley for the women's team. They open at home in a doubleheader against Roane State here at Boshamer Gymnasium with the women playing at 6 p.m. and the men following at 8 p.m. MEN’S TEAM OUTLCX)K Coach Tom Radford, in his first year as men's basketball coach, has several objectives he plans to meet with this year’s version of the Tornadoes. Five returning players - 6’0" guard Kevin Adgent, 7’2" Scott Barnes, 6’6" wingman Wayne Frechette, 6’6" and 67" power forward Jason Tweed - were on hand to greet 10 freshmen, plus two walk-ons. Only one of the returning players saw much action on last year’s team, which won nine games. With so much inexperience, the line-up is wide open, according to Radford. ’’Before the season began," he said, "We had three objectives. First we want to reach the potential of each of our players. The players on this squad are a very exciting group with unlimited potential. Our main job will be to make sure each player does everything nccessary to be a successful student- athlete," Radford said. "Our second objective," he noted, "is to play with a great degree of intensity. The practices this fall indicate that this will happen.
