The Clarion Sarah's Subject... Thanks 4 playing along by Sarah Fish Clarion Assistant Editor * "I'm leaving on a jet plane..." Well actually, I need to make a few minor corrections if this is to be as effective as I want it to be. Let's try substituting a midnight-blue Camaro. Better? Yes, I am leaving. Leaving Brevard College, but not leaving with nothing gained. I'm going to the University of Alabama (Roll Tide, Roll). I am fully aware of the consequences of this decision, but I am a big (BIG) girl now and although I dread leaving (you know, like ARA) I have lasting memories that I will not, could not, and shall not forget, even if I had my heart set on it. Friendships are so awesome. I have encountered some really cool folks at this here fine institution. Especially the people I've lived with for the past year and a half of my life. All the blood, sweat and tears we've shared proves that a bond has been formed -- an unbreakable bond. I can't begin to recap ture every moment, but you know who you are, and we definitely have had some good times. I wish friends were more appreciative of their friends. It's so strange, but it seems the people we care about the most are the people whose feelings we hurt first. But being the true friend that they are we are lucky enough to have them stick by our sides through (pardon the cliche) thick and thin. I try to keep in mind the poor souls I've trampled on during my weak moments, and I try to make up for it. In each individual’s own special way, people made me feel at home here - starting with that first night. Even though times have changed since then, and most of us have found our little temporary niches, we can't ignore the memories that were created first-off. I have been supported in my every endeavor and I thank each and every one of you. You know who you are, because I have already told you in some way or another. I will never forget the constant laughter, which came in handy quite frequently. Neither will I forget all the signs posted for our well-being that almost immediately were mysteriously tom down (then put on display in #254, later #263). We bamboozled our way into many hearts and minds, and even became the objects of some peoples worst nightmares. I'll remember the Greenville Experience, the infamous flavors. Batman and the Bat Five, how cold the creek always was, the food fight behind the cafeteria that was such a hit that Jeff Battle scheduled one on the planned activity sheet, 3 X a day mail checks, all the Pepsi consumed, pallets, screams. Black Bettys (and the realiza tion that we all have them), GEMS, Taylor times. Lovely teachers, the Vale of the Cross, Missy Fish's Unclc named Sid, Wing-dinging - and that Yaweh loves me. But on a more serious note, my lasting impression remains the family we became as BC students. Living together in these close quarters, it was impossible to avoid becoming attached. I love you guys, you are my friends - for life. 1 like to write letters, but just in case I don't all the time, I never want Farewell to students finishing at Brevard by Sarah Fish Clarion Assistant Editor The Clarion salutes the following students who are going on to seek their educations at four-year colleges and universities. "The students who remain at BC for fifth and sixth semesters are success stories, students whom we are proud to have with us, students who have overcome deficiencies in high school educations and now are ready to be juniors at other institutions. Sure, I am creating a new life for myself in Bama, but you'll never be excluded from my mind or my heart. Thank you for helping me grow (and yes, that is even possible in my December 10, 1990 Page 3 case). You helped me get to know me beuer, BC. And I’ve learned to conquer my fears, and encourage my dreams. Bye, BC. I'm going to miss you, but you'll be with me more than you know. Campus Security reports several major incidents on campus which have been solved and resulted in severe disciplinary action. According to Director of Security Steve Woodson, over the weekend of Nov. 2- 3, fire extinguishers were set off in Taylor and Green dorms late at night Two weeks later, one student was suspended and another withdrew form college. During the night of Nov. 11, a student drove his car through the cornfield and new baseball field, incurring damage to crops and landscaping. The following week, the offender was charged and is to pay restitution to the farmer and the college. In both cases, Dean of Student Affairs Norm Witek says, offenders threatened the safety of other students on campus, and he notes, such behavior will not be tolerated. Last week. Campus Security identified a theft ring on campus selling stolen books back to the campus book store. One student has been forced to withdraw and four others are still under investigation. On the night of Nov. 18, housekeeping employee working for Servicemaster, Inc., was involved in an altercation with his spouse on the patio of Coluane Commons in which several students became enmeshed when they tried to intervene. The employee was jailed and summarily dismissed by Servicemaster. In addition. Dean Witek reports that students are risking serious injury or even death just to clean their clothes for free. Apparently, people are using Knives to short out the washer-dryers, thus starting them without using quarters. V/itek warns that the practice, which he calls campus-wide, could seriously shock the person. Also, it could ruin the machine, and finally, if the situation continues. Be will lose the use of the washer-dryers. That is to say. the company that owns the washers and dryers will simply remove them from campus. Witek reports that as a result of such "riggings." many of the machmes are now out of order, and that they will all be repaired over Chrisunas Break. From then on. he says, whether BC students will get to have washer-dryers on campus will be up to them. — BC News Bureau with reports from the office of Campus Security
