The Clarion Wednesday. December 7. 1994 Page 8 Student guideline violations down from last year by Stephanie Thompson Clarion Staff Writer Just recall that big party: you got so drunk, but hey, you’re an adult and can handle it. You arrived back on campus, you’re not exactly sure how, but that’s no big deal. You open the door to your residence hall and your RD’s door is open. You try to walk past as quickly as possible without falling on your face. Just when you thought the coast was clear, guess who! Your RD whips the pen and paper out faster than you can make an excuse and writes you up for consumption of alcohol and public intoxication. I’m almost positive the next question on your mind is: what’s going to happen next? . To briefly summarize the situation, you’re in trouble. Once the RD has your name and offense in question, the matter is put before the judicial board. They decide what sanctions and fines you will receive, if any. These decisions are made according to a chart, provided to them by the school, which delegates sanctions and fines according to the seriousness of the offense. If you are a freshman and a first time offender, don’t lose all hope. Once this year is completed your slate is wiped clean. Now that’s not to say when you are a sophomore go out and get your one violation for the year, because it doesn’t work like that. The records of past violations are kept and according to Dean Martin, a sophomore should know better and so their sanctions and fines will be twice that of a freshman. The main violations are alcohol and visitation. On a whole, the amount of violations this semester is fairly equal to that of last year, but in some cases it is considerably less. The team will compete on a collegiate level and will perform in demonstrations and at special events. Brevard College will also offer clogging in its physical education curriculum. The team will be led by Henry Jones, an American Clogging Hall of Fame instructor and judge who also holds two National Clogging Championship titles. In addition to developing a championship-level team, Jones will be able to assist Brevard College students in becoming certified as judges and clogging instructors. The College clogging program will strive to preserve the traditional forms of Appalachian clogging, but will also explore the many new styles that have been developed in recent years. Scholarships are available to students based on their dancing talent, academic achievements and leadership potential. For more information, contact the Brevard College Office of Admissions at (704) 884-8300. Four-Year- (Cont. from pg. 1) And as there are more students that are juniors and senior, the need for a smaller freshman class will be required. As two-thirds of the student body are now freshmen, a more selective system next fall to even out the numbers will be required. Many students wondered if this would have any effect on the price of admissions or housing. Besides the normal increase every year, Martin says no, that there shouldn’t be any. appp o(tbap£i! from Clarion Have a great break and we'll see you next year!
