Basketball Team Prepares For Competition
Stacy Luckie

Once again it’s time for basketball!
With this year’s blend of youth and
experience, the Tornados are looking
forward to blowing the competition away.
Coach Dudley Bradley is in his
second year as the head honcho of the
Tornados. With a core of super
sophomores led by Mike Felder and Joe
Cooper, Coach Bradley has nothing but
high expectations for this year’s team.
To go with his super sophomores, Coach
Bradley has also brought in a crop of
fabulous freshmen. The freshman are led
by top recruits Tyrone Walker, Brian
Tate, and Damien Daughtry; there is also
a host of other top notch freshmen and
sophomores. This good blend of youth
and experience should help the Tornados
reach Coach Bradley’s expectations.
When asked what the team needs
to improve, coach Bradley replied, “The
freshmen need to play at their peak all the
time and be more aggressive.”
The Tornados’ first game is on
November 7, so keep your eyes peeled
for more updates.

Chad Berryman Explains Keys To Success
Erica Broadway
Asst. Editor
Chad Berryman, a 19 year-old
sophomore from Kannapolis, North
Carolina, is the pitcher for the Brevard
College Baseball team.
When he first started pitching, his
coach told him he wasn’t good enough to
play for high school or college. This
discouragement pushed him more. He
wanted to pitch so that he could prove to
luniself that he can accomplish any goals
he set for himself.
Chad started playing baseball at age
5 when he played tee-ball for 2 years.
After that he played for Dixie Youth for
10 years. Then moved on to play for his
®iddle school for 2 years and A.L.
Brown High School for 4 years. One
reason Chad has come this far is because
he has had a lot of support from both
(coaches and family. Many of his coaches
*°ok time out to help him whenever he
needed it. His family attended all his
games and stood by him 100%. His father
his brother, Shane, spent a lot of
their time helping Chad practice. All of
'his hard work paid off. During his
senior year, Chad won the All-
*“Onference award.
Chad said there are a lot of
advantages in playing for Brevard. “I get
to travel to different places, meet and
make new friends, and most important, I
get to fulfill my childhood dream.”
Growing up Chad always had a
dream to someday pitch for the Atlanta
Braves. Chad also said that Greg
Maddux, pitcher for the Atlanta Braves,
inspires him to strive for the best.
Along with advantages comes
disadvantages, but the only disadvange
Chad can think of is the fact that all the
practicing sometimes interferes with
smdies.
Chad said the keys to success are,
“good work habits, good attitudes, hard
work, and dedication.
Chad came to Brevard because he
was impressed with coach Stroupe and
“the way he does things.” While playing
for the team last year, Chad was drafted
by the Houston Astros, but he said he felt
he was too young and needed more
experience. “Plus, in case of an injury I
can have my education to fall back on.
After Brevard Chad hopes to contmue
his education at UNC-Chapel Hill and
also play baseball there.
Chad has a special passage written in
his hat. Before each game and when he
gets mad or frustrated, he reads this for
reassurance. “Let God work in your
life.” (Philippians 4:13)
