Friday, February 28,1997 Campus BC Students honored in Who’s Who Dr. Teague smiles in front of the Bell Tower. (Special to the Clarion) Teague promoted to Senior VP and Dean of Faculty Press Release BC News Bureau Eight Brevard College students have been selected for the 1997 edition of Who’s Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges. These students were selected by a campus nominating committee and the editors of the annual directory based on their academic achievement, service to the community, leadership in extracurricular activities and potential for continued success. These students join an elite group of students from more than 1,800 institutions of higher learning in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and several foreign nations. Outstanding students have been honored in this annual directory since 1966. The Brevard College students who have been named to the 1997 edition of Who’s Who Among Students in American Junior colleges are Geralyn Rae Antoniotti, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph C. Antoniotti of Niceville, Ra., Summer Taos Calder, daughter of Ms. Meta O. Calder of Tallahassee, Fla., Eduardo Espinel, son of Mr. and Mrs. Luis E. Espinel of Duluth, Ga., Catherine Michele McClain, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wiley M. McClain of Shelby, N.C., Nathan Andrew Shambo, son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter J. Shambo of Ehirham, N.C., Seth Clayton Thompson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard A Thompson of St. Cloud, Fla., Manabu Okawa, son of Mr. and Mrs. Takeshi Okawa of Tokyo, Japan, and Konstantin Vladimirov Stoyanov, son of Mr. and Mrs. Vladimir Georgiev of Plovdiv, Bulgaria. McClendon of Institutional Press Release BC News Bureau Brevard College President J. Thomas Bertrand has aimounced that Robert G. McClendon, currently Vice President and Dean for Admissions and Financial Aid, has been named Vice President for Institutional Advancement. Director of Admissions Rick Whiten will step up as Acting Dean of Admissions, and Brevard College will begin an immediate search for a qualified person to take the position of Vice President and Dean for Admissions and Financial Aid. Barbara Boemer, a recent retiree to the area who has headed several women’s prep schools in the East and was Director of Admissions Five Brevard College students have been selected for the 1997 edition of Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. The Brevard College students who have been named to the 1997 edition of Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges include Angela Jane Clark, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Phillip R. Clark of Cumming, Ga., Darryl Andrew Forney, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert William Forney or Charlotte, N.C., Helen Denise McKie, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James a McKie of Brevard, N.C., Layton Ray Parker, son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Parker of Pisgah Forest, N.C., and Joshua Quincey Poindexter, son of Mrs. Sharon D. Poindexter of State Road, N.C. named VP Advancement for Goucher College, will take on a part-time advisory role to the College Senior Staff. McClendon, who has been with Brevard College for 18 years, has worked in college admissions for over 25 years with institutions such as LaGrange College in Georgia, Birmingham Southern in Alabama, Lambuth University in Tennessee and Brookstone College in North Carolina. He received his bachelor’s degree from LaGrange College and is currently president of the Carolina’s Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers. McClendon lives in Henderson County with his wife Sharon and his two sons, Matthew and Patrick. Press Release BC News Bureau Brevard College President J. Thomas Bertrand has announced the promotion of Dr. Charles Teague, currently Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the Faculty, to Senior Vice President and Dean of the Faculty. Teague has been with Brevard College for 12 years, serving in a variety of posts including professor of religion, chaplain, dean of academic planning and chairman of the humanities division. He holds an associate’s degree from Brevard College, a bachelor’s degree from High Point University, an M. Div. Press Release BC News Bureau The Brevard College Art Faculty are showing their work in Sims Art Center until March 7. An opening reception for the artists was held on Friday, Feb. 7, at 7:00 P.M., to degree from the Candler School of Theology at Emory Univeristy, a D. Min. degree from Emory University, and he has completed additional post graduate study at Princeton Theological Seminary and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He currently resides in Brevard with his wife, Daune, and his daughter, Julie. “This addition of the word ‘senior’ to Dr. Teague’s current title reflects the primacy of the academic enterprise within out college,” Bertrand said. “It also acknowledges the exceptional leadership that Charles has provided us throughout our recent baccalaureate accreditation process and the character that he continues to display daily in his work for the College.” provide the artists with the chance to talk about their work. The entire Brevard College art faculty is represented in a variety of media. Works will be displayed by Tim Murray, Jo Pimiphrey, Bill Byers, Molly Doctrow and Mike Lyda. Sims Art Center hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. The show is free of charge and open to the public.
