Attention All:
The Green River
Extreme Race will be held on
Dec. 12 providing that the
Tuxedo HydroStation can
release the water that day.
So come on out and support
some of Brevard College’s
paddlers as they race down
some of the most difficult
whitewater in the East. If you do
not know how to get there, do
not worry; just ask one of those
people you see all over campus
with those weird looking pieces
of metal or wood on top of the
vehicles, and I’m sure they will
help you out with directions.

Brevard College has an
annual study abroad program,
which is in Altmunster, Austria.
The students traveling abroad with
the program this year are; Tara
Beddingfield, Susie Baer, Laurel
Cowart, Lauren Faulkner-Duncan,
Yuka Kawasaki, Tami Manella,
Robert Ashley Moore, Stacey
Simpson, Alison Stephen, Leslie
Wallace, and Leisha Weeks. These
students have the opportunity to
learn the language and culture of
Austria.
The participants will be
living in a small apartment building
where classes are also held. In one
semester the students will take and
get credit for the equivalent of one
full year of college German. They
will also take a music history course
and a humanities course teaching
them the musical history of Aus
tria through excursions to sights
of historical importance and by in
teracting with the people and cul
ture of Austria. There is also an
alpine skiing class offered for a PE
credit. The students will be pro
fessionally instructed and are anx
ious to learn how to ski and
snowboard in the Alps. Music
majors also have the opportunity
to receive private music lessons
while abroad for an extra cost.
There is also extra traveling in
cluded in the trip. The group will
spend an entire week in the city of
Vienna and will also see sights in
Salzburg, Hallstadt, Bad Ischl,
Trauenkirchen, Innsbruck, and
other historically important sites.
Their semester will begin
early when they board the plane at
the Atlanta airport in early Janu
ary. Upon arriving they wi 11 be met
by Margaret Zednick who has been
working with Brevard College on
the Austria trip for the past ten
years. Maggie Zednick is an in
structor in Philosophy and the Resi
dent Director in Austria. Over the
past ten years she has come in con
tact with many Brevard College stu
dents and she has developed close
bonds with many of them, that is
why it is hard to believe that she
will be retiring after this year.
Many people who have worked
with her will be sad to see her go
but they say that they are very
grateful that they had the opportu
nity to become friends with her.
Good luck to all students going on
this trip and the best of luck,
Maggie, in the future.
