Wednesday, December 9,1998 Men’s and Women’s Cross Country: A Season Well Done 4 Sports by Katherine Sullivan The Brevard College Cross Country teams competed in the National Junior College Cross- Country Championships in Over land Park, Kansas. The men fin ished 1O* in the team competition, They were led in scoring by Justin Turner in 33'‘‘ place and Tyler Sutterby in 40* and Ryan Knopfle in 43'“' place. Katherine Sullivan led the women in 24th and Aimee Salzer in 34* place. In addition to the Na tional Championships the Brevard College Cross-Country Teams consistently have run well over the entire season. Races included a men’s 8* place finish at the Southeast ern Classic at the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee. Cross-Country Rinker was named Regi of the Year. Other races included a men’s 3''* place finish at the King/ Queen of the Mountain in Blowing Rock, North Carolina. The women also finished well with a 13*, 16*, and a 20* place. The Tornadoes opened their season with a men’s victory in the college division at the Winthrop Invitational in Rock Hill, South Carolina. The women also placed well with a 2"‘*, 4*, and a 5* place in the college division. The team was lec in scoring by Sam Richardson wit! 15 points and Eryon Ford and Ber Warren with 12 points. Brevarc was faced with yet another loss against Georgia Perimeter College with a score of (106 - 63). Brevarc College was led in scoring b:, Eryon Ford with 18 points and Mat Keaton with 12 points. Other tough eluded a loss against Fort Jackson, South Carolina, with a score of 78 - 71. Matt Keaton led BC scoring with 18 points and Eryon Ford with 15 points. Clinton Jun ior College with a score of 73 - 68 also defeated the Tornadoes. The Tornadoes were led in scoring by Eryon Ford with 28 points. Good Luck on upcoming games! Women’s Basketball The Brevard College Women’s Basketball team lost to Clinton Junior College with a score - 72 at Rock Hill, South Caro- linl The leading scorer for Brevard iQuita Pbster with 22 points. pJulie Griffin recorded fher first double-double /of the season with 11 •points and 10 rebounds. Karamie Hartman also had an outstanding game, recording her third double-double 3f the season with 10 points and 11 rebounds. In addition to the Novem- >er 18* game, the Lady Tornadoes lave played exceptionally well with tough loss to Truett-McConnell 'ollege with a score of 83 - 61. -eading in scoring with 17 points /asDeiaMack. Karamie Hartman added her second consecutive double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Other recent games included a win over Fort Jackson, South Carolina with a score of 80- 53. The two leading scorers of this game were Holly Miller with 19 points and Quita Foster with 17. The Lady Tornadoes opened the season with a very im pressive 82 - 68 victory against Clinton Junior College of Rock Hill, South Carolina. BC Women’s Volleyball by Katherine Sullivan The Brevard College Women’s Volleyball team has also had a great season. Their fall sea son was marked by games against Mars Hill College with a loss of 2 - 3. The women also defeated Spartanburg Methodist College with a score of 3 - 1 and a loss to Catonsville College with a score of 2-3. The Lady Tornadoes also defeated Columbia College of Co lumbia, South Carolina with scores ofl5-3,l2-15,15-6,andl7-15. The Lady Tornadoes also won the Region X Championship against Spartanburg Methodist College with a score of 3 - 0. Congratula tions on a season well done. Congratulations Men’s Soccer by Megan Rltsch The BC Men’s Soccer team finished the season off with an 11 - 8 - 2 record. In the Region X Toumament, D.J. Wayoro, Mike Adeyemi, Belete Zerihun, Eric Sellick, Tim Melton, and Chris Jack son all made the All-Region X Team. Coach Andy Schaefer was recognized as the Region X Coach of the Year and D.J. Wayoro was Co-Player of the Year! The men worked hard and played some tough games this season, also win ning their third consecutive Region X Championship!
