March 1999 5 Sports Indoor Track National Await BC Runners BC Men’s Baseball Team Sweeps Doubleheader Reported by Kore Humes Reported by Stacy Luckie The men’s and women’s indoor track & field teams certainly have been racing around lately. Competing in the Georgia Dome Collegiate Invita tional on Friday, Feb. 26, in Atlanta, GA, the teams outdis tanced themselves. Outstanding performances were turned in by many. Aimee Salzer finished 4‘*' in the women’s 5,000-meter run withatime of 18:53.36. This finish marks the 2"** fastest time in the country for a junior college athlete. Also at the Georgia Invitational, Justin Turner and Bereket Kifiu qualified for the national championships in the 5,000-meter run as they ran 15:13.92 and 15:16.94 and finished 2nd and 3 in the meet. Jamar Bryson was 4* in the mile run and just missed qualifying for nationals with a time of4:22.59. Kobie Pumell won his heat of the 60-meter hurdles. Also wirming his heat in the 60- meter dash was Landell Jacobs. In the finals, Kobie false started the hurdles. Landell placed 5*' and Tim Vaught 6"' in the 60-meter dash. Tim Vaught was 4* in the 400-meter run. March 2. Freshman pitcher Brent Long picked up his first collegiate victory in relief of Collyar Barksdale in the first game. David Tollison led BC at the plate with two doubles in four at-bats and 3 RBI’s. In the second game, BC scored 9 runs in the first inning and then had to hold off a late inning rally by Roane State to claim their 8th victory of the season. Israel Pope recorded his in scores of 1 - 0 and 9-0. The Lady Tornadoes will be back in action on March 12th at Roane State Community College, Tennessee. Good luck, ladies!
