October 15, 1999 NEWS 3 Homecoming events splash campus By CHRIS FREDRICKSON Alumni, students and parents crowded the campus this past week end for homecoming, enjoying the festivities despite stormy weather. Over a special Alumni lunch, past Brevard College classes reuinited with old friends and checked out new additions to the campus. Alumni took some time to look at yearbooks in Coltrane Commons and share memories with friends and even current students. Students be came acquainted with Brevard gradu ates, who shared some of the things that have changed over the years. Students also took advantage of the activities planned for them. On Friday, the students took place in Bi zarre Wars. They enjoyed such events as the tug of war and building marshmallow houses. Participants attended many of the activities, including baseball, vol leyball and soccer games. Though the volleyball and baseball teams lost their match and game, their fellow athletes picked up wins. Boys soccer won 3- Photo by Wendy Byerley 0 and the girls creamed their op ponents with a score of 2-0, end ing in a shut-out for both teams. The winners of the homecom ing court were an nounced in be tween soccer games. And the winners are: Durb Davis, homecoming Staff Photo king, and Molly Smith, homecoming queen. Davis left the announcement with his velvet crown and a little jig. Troy Mathers won the position of homecoming prince and Alyssa Schutte is our freshman princess. Saturday night, students rocked the gym for the annual dance. This homecoming was a memorable event for the freshmen and seniors at Brevard. This will be remembered as the first college home coming for freshmen and the last for the seniors. It is also very special due to its designation of the last home coming in the 20* century. River Run was bursting with Feature Film entries, professional workshops and many Short Film entries, including "Church Photos of Robert Moore by Wendy Byerley and student filmmakers from Cafifornia. Work shops on Directing, Screenwriting, Entertain ment Technology, Cin ematography and Inter pretive Performance pre sented a comfortable mix of lecture, demonstration and detailed question and answer session. Monday screenings of "Crashing Eden," "Corndog Man,” "Verses" and the short film "Yellow Badge of Courage" completed screenings of more than 25 entries in this years' competition.
