18 FEATURES The Clarion Album returns fans to the classic jxmgle BY CHRIS FREDRICKSON GNR fans welcome back to the jungle. Guns N’ Roses are back with their first album since 1993. Live Era ‘87-’93 brings back classic GNR favorites and puts to bed the first chapter to the old phenomenon known as Guns N’ Roses. This two CD set goes back to the club days when they were known as Hollywood Rose. This album features an extended introduction to “November Rain,” where Axl showcases his talent not only as a front man but also as a pianist. Some of the tracks feature old club tracks, such as “Move to the City” and a Black Sabbath cover, “It’s Alright.” Axl clarifies his intentions behind the song, “I Used To Love Her” with a colorful but typical response that you would expect from a band like Guns N’ Roses. Throughout many of the songs Axl proves why he used to be called, “the world’s greatest front man” with jokes and his successful attempts to get the crowd involved in the songs. However, the live version of “Don’t Cry” isn’t as powerful as the version on Use Your Illusion I or II the background vocals of Shannon Hoon will sadly be missed by many fans of this song. This album features massive intensity by both Axl Rose and Slash. Many GNR fans will love Live Era ‘87-’93. Although the first chapter of Guns N’ Roses has ended the chapter II will start in the spring of 2000, with an entirely new lineup. The new single “Oh My God” has just been released on the “End Of Days” soundtrack and if you like Godsmack you will like the new GNR. If you liked Led Zeppelin BBC Sessions you will like Live Era ‘87-’93. I give Guns N’ Roses Live Era ‘87-’93 3.5 earrings out of 4. The music is great and it’s a album that you continuously keep putting in your CD player. However, they should have also included their big hit (originally written by Paul and Linda McCartney) “Live and Let Die.” ^0 WHISKY IX ml SAT. ALIO Omega Code stresses historical apocalypse BY LENORA MOODY John F. Kennedy’s assassination Princess Diana’s horrible death and Hitler’s cruel attack against the Jews: Did the Torah foretell these events? The movie,“Omega Code,” discusses the connection of the Torah to these events and others. Omega Code opened in Octo ber at two theaters in Texas and Hollywood. The first week of sales placed “Omega Code” in the number one slot of gross movie sales. Considering this film’s low budget and the small bookings, high sales were surprising. When I saw Omega Code only 30-40 theaters in the country were showing the movie. With the high sales and attendance, Omega Code is now showing in many mainstream theaters. The Fall’s Landing of Brevard will be showing the movie sometime this winter. The date has yet to be announced. Various locations provided the scenes for this movie. Trinity Broadcasting Company, producer of the movie, wanted to use high-tech special effects. However, the budget became too extravagant when pricing these computer-generated images. Trinity planned less expensive effects to replace the costly computer gener ated ones. These cheaper effects did not cheapen the movie at all. The action, suspense, effects, actors and everything in between made this movie excellent. The actors of this movie are incredibly talented. Casper Van Dien plays the part of Gillian Lane. Van Dien’s represents a motiva tional speaker and a future assistant to the antichrist. Van Dien’s acting seems a little fake when he portrays the motivational speaker. He over emphasizes the energetic nature of this speaker. However, I did like his acting in the action scenes toward The FalVs Landing of Brevard will be showing the movie sometime this winter... the end of the movie. Stone Alexander (Michael York) is the apocalyptic antichrist. I would be an idiot to say his acting was horrible. I found his character imaginaUve and lifelike. I would give this man a score of ten or more on his ability and acting. Dominic (Michael Ironside) is the antichrist’s assistant/hit man. Ironside demonstrates the egotism and jealousy found in evil when he attempts to destroy the antichrist and take over the world. His acting seemed life-like and showed general dislike against the antichrist. Catherine Oxenburg plays Cassandra Barris, a reporter. I found Oxenburgs character surprising toward the end of the film. She seemed to be the rescuer of Gillian Lane, only to turn against him and his beliefs. The movie starts with an aged Jewish Rabbi searching the Torah for the past and future answers of the world. The Rabbi enters the last connection onto his computer disk. Then he takes a piece of paper and writes down a code, which is revealed later in the movie. The Rabbi inserts the paper into his front coat pocket for safety. The Rabbi goes back to work and sees a small beam of light hit his chest. Dominic, dressed in Rabbi garments, pulls the trigger of his laser gun and kills the aged Rabbi. I like this movie for one reason: the realism. Dominic grabs the disk and Torah and runs out the door. He runs through the corridors and halls, until he sees two men in front of him. Dominic stops and looks for The movie starts with an aged Jewish Rabbi searching the Torah for the past and future.. an escape. However, one of the men now stands behind him. The men are the witnesses of the final days and have come to deliver a prophetic message to Dominic. They let Dominic go, but only temporarily. Dominic takes the Torah and disk to Stone Alexander. The antichrist inserts the disk to begin the final days of the world. The plot unfolds throughout the movie, beginning with the deciphering of the Torah, which tells of the final days on earth and corruption of the antichrist. Then when the antichrist comes to power over the entire world, he announces himself god over everything. The plot ends dramatically with the • destruction of the world and antichrist. I like this movie for one reason: the realism. I felt like I walked away from an event that really took place on earth. The characters, action, plot and everything seemed realistic.
