2 NEWS The Clarion Mikk McCabe Available only recently this se mester, the eBook Collection is another name for netLibrary, an easy to use, web-based system for accessing and retrieving full text reference, scholarly, and professional books. These “elec tronic” publications - called eBooks - are traditionally published materials that have been converted into digital for mat for electronic distribution. The benefits to this new‘Virtual library” for mat are numerous. For instance, librar ians can now expand their collections without having to build bigger libraries and patrons can receive eBooks at re mote locations in the click of a mouse instead of spending days (or sometimes weeks) not to mention postage, to de liver books from library to bbraiy, cam pus to campus. Key Club, for high schoolers, and Kiwanis, for adults, complete the family. Circle K believes in develop ing the human and spiritual rather than the material aspects of life. Through membership, college students are encouraged to promote righteous ness, justice, patriotism, and goodwill towards all. Club officers for the semester were elected at their first meeting. Lindsay Shields will serve as F*resident, Jeramy Goble as Vice President, Kate Wiley as Secretary, and Eric Stribling as Treasurer. They have a great deal of enthusiasm for the future. Shields said, “I’m highly ex cited that Brevard College is going to be part of an intemational organization where people can come together to promote service and leadership.” Their first service event was a successfiil clothing drive to benefit the children of La Paz, Bolivia. The typical netLibrary cus tomers are research, academic, pub lic, corporate, and private libraries and their patrons. Only one person at a time can view a copy of a given eBook and patrons are limited in their ability to print or copy the eBook to a page ofinformationatatime. Brevard Col lege library patrons eager to view our new online books by do so by first cre ating their own personal accounts from a computer in the library or elsewhere on campus.
