The students auctioned off were Mike Cohen, Aleece Fosnight, Laura King, John Grimsley, Kris May- Richardson, and Anthony Hatcher. Mike Cohen was bought by Jamie Michaels for $25.00. Aleece Fosnight was bought by Dan Aulterman for $15.00. Laura King was bought by her boyfriend, Justin Blythes, for $100.00. John Grimsley was bought by Keeley Bollinges for $34.00. Kris May- Richardson was bought by Shomari Ramsay for $75.00. Anthony Hatcher was bought by Lindsay Sherrllio, Lara Garret, and Jennifer Epiey for $29.00. Every couple was given a gift certifi cate to a local restaurant for a romantic dinner. Chris Hiatt said, “The date auc tion was pretty cool. 1 was surprised Kris May-Rlchardson with her date, Shomari Ramsay (photo by Heather Hinkle) with the $100.00 pur chase.” Mike Cohen says, “It was one of the most humiliating experi ences of my life. I felt like a piece of meat but we’re not talking about Angus Beef here. We’re talking about old pork chops.” When people arrived at the dance they had the option to donate money to United Children’s Fund (UNICEF). If they do nated money over $1.00 they received a raffle ticket. The raffle took place after the last video segment. SGA and CAB were raffling off three baskets filled mostly with candy but there were also dinner tickets and few extra odds and ends. The grand prize was two tickets to the Biltmore Estates. Kathy Dorner, Kody Kinsley, and Anthony Hatcher won the baskets and Robin Benitz won the Biltmore Estate tickets. At 10:00pm the student dance started. At the end of the evening, SGA and CAB raised $581.00 for the United Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and SGA said they will match and donate $581.00 to Communities in Schools of Transylvania County. Thompson died suddenly on Sunday, February 20 at his home outside of Aspen, Colorado. Thompson was best known for his pioneering of “gonzo journalism,” rampant drug use and radical political views. Among his published works was Fear and Loath ing in Las Vegas, which was made into a motion pic ture starring Johnny Depp. Thompson was a con tributor to Rolling Stone magazine and ESPN.com. Soccer Fundraiser on the way The men’s and women’s soccer teams will be organizing a garage sale this spring.
