Scholarship established
The Forrest and
Rose Van Horn Scholar
ship, named after Presi
dent Van Horn’s parents,
will become available be
ginning fall semester
2006.
The Scholarship
amounts to $500 a semes
ter and first consider
ation will be made to stu
dents from Burke County,
N.C., according to Ad
ministrative Assistant in the Financial Aid Department Monica
Booth. If there is no student from Burke County available for the
scholarship, others will be considered. Essentially, the scholarship
is available to “any student that wants to go to college but needs
some help,” President Van Horn said.
President Van Horn said that his parents were always very
passionate about young people having the opportunity to obtain a
higher education. So when his father, Forrest Van Horn, passed
away on Jan. 18, he talked with his brother and they decided that
“establishing a scholarship would be a good way of continuing
their legacy.”
Forrest Van Horn grew up in the depression and had always
worked with his hands, in heating and cooling and home appli
ances, according to President Van Horn. He was in the Navy dur
ing WWII and lived to be 80 years old. He was survived by his wife
of 57 years. Rose Van Horn, who was always very involved with
her children’s educational experience.
“My mom and dad...neither one had a college education,”
said President Van Horn. “They lived very simple lives. It was
important for them that young people go as far as they could.”

CAB discusses Springfest,
campus TV channel
by Christina Dennis
Staff Writer
During the February 22""'
CAB meeting the decision was
made to accept the proposal to
sponsor a 24/7-campus movie
channel and a rough outline for
Spring Fest was established.
The channel works
through a Digital Media Player,
which is mostly run by the com
pany and takes care of every
thing. Each month the school
selects eight different movies
and plays four of them for two
weeks on a cycled loop then
switches the movies for the
second half of the month. The
movies chosen will partly come
from student input. An email to
CAB or better yet, a visit to one
of the meetings (Wednesday
7pm MG 113) will helped to get
the movies you want to see
most aired.
The goal is to get 2 or 3
new movies a month and
change the rest up to offer va
riety. The movies available will
be as current as possible. As
soon as they are released to
home video they are in our
rooms. Other locations CAB
wants to be hooked up to this
channel is in the communal ex
ercise room and the Tornado
Lounge in Coltrane.
CAB also intends to use
the channel as an outlet for aca
demic movies and Brevard
student’s work. The channel
will not be in effect until the
2006 fall semester due to the
way contracts with the com
pany take place.
Those who took the sur
vey given out in the Caf have
set the groundwork for the
Spring Fest itinerary. Most
likely things are going to gear
up around mid-afternoon in
front of Beam and Jones with
lunch served outside. There
will be smaller bands,
Inflatables, Bizarre wars, and a
generational theme. The theme
is to dress somewhere from the
‘80’s to present day.
Last year some things got
out of hand with non-students
coming to the dance. As a re
sult and ID will be required so
keep it on you at all time in case
you’re asked to identify your
self. If you have a date that is
not a student, that is fine, just
be able to account for your
guest. An age limit of 17 is be
ing considered in order to main
tain a relaxed atmosphere.
If you’ve got realistic
band request for the bands per
forming throughout the day
email CAB or come to a meet
ing Wednesdays @ 7pm in
MG 113.
