November 10, 2006 The Clarion 1 This Week in SGA NEWS Page 3 SGA faces budget crises, clubs asked to cut items by Jamie Michaels Opinion Editor This week’s meeting of the House of Club Representatives focused primarily on the recent budget crises facing the SGA. Vice- President Kody Kinsley opened the meeting by explaining the bud get problems. Essentially, at the beginning of the semester the Senate (the elected body which, among other things, approves the budget) set a limit on the amount of money al located to the House for club bud by Tom Cowan News Editor On Friday Oct. 20, a man chased two BC students out of the Ingles parking lot for unknown reasons. Molly Carlson says that around 12:30 a.m., she and Katherine Berube were walking toward the trail connecting the Ingles parking lot to campus, when they were spotted by an irate, shirtless white male standing near the Ingles gas station a short distance away. Carlson describes the man as mid-thirties, bald, potbellied, and gets at 60% of the operating bud get. The House has now spent 59.94% of the operating budget, and 8 clubs still have not been ap proved for budgets, and therefore have no money to spend for the year Part of the reason for this bud get crisis is that this year has seen an influx of clubs requesting new capital requests for startup. These clubs will presumably request sig nificantly less money in the fu ture. Clubs have been asked to cut from their budgets any items which they do not intend to spend by glistening with sweat despite the cold weather. She says the man suddenly began running after them without saying a word. Carlson and Berube ran from the man who came within about 30 feet of them, but did not pursue them into North Village. Berube reported the incident to Campus Security from her dorm. According to Head of Security Stan Jacobsen, the Security officer on duty reported the incident to Brevard Police who searched the area that morning, but did not iden tify any suspects. the end of the semester. This money would go back to the gen eral SGA fund and be available for immediate allocation to clubs who are yet without funds. Jason DeCristofaro of the Brevard Percussion Society re turned to the House over $1,000 in light of the fact that they will not be attending a conference they had originally planned to attend. BC Recycles also returned $530 to the general budget, and the De bate Society returned $300. Clubs yet without a budget in clude the Business Club, the BC Paranormal Research Society, Cy Elderly woman injured in layers Dining Hall slip by Tom Cowan News Editor Around 1:00p.m., Friday Nov. 3, an elderly woman tripped in the BC cafeteria while carrying her tray to the dish room. Witnesses say the woman hit her face on the edge of a table, causing a small cut on the bridge of her nose. The woman remained on the ground, awaiting the prompt ar rival of EMS which a cafeteria staff member had immediately called. The woman was not found to have suffered serious injury, and was able to leave the cafeteria with her husband. cling. The meeting concluded with House members suggesting proce dures for preventing future bud get crises and turning these issues over to the budget committee for resolution.
