SOAR: Let the good times roll

Over the summer, the
lives of many students
have drastically
changed. And it is all
due to one word:
COLLEGE.
Ranging from June to
July, incoming Brevard
College students have
been exposed to the
way sand traditions of
Brevard College on a
daily basis.
It is safe to say that
each and every student
was filled with nervous
energy before arriving
on campus; not with the
thought of what Brevard
College was going to be like,
but of having no clue what was
in-store for the future.
SOAR was the official event
that made the idea of college
come alive and it turned all of
the scenarios that played in the
minds of freshmen students
time and time again a complete
reality. Begiiming the college
journey emitted a sense of
in such an ultimate and
extraordinary sense of the word
was a mark in time that only
campus and left nothing but a
positive impression on the
faculty, staff, community, and
3
at Brevard College. Sophomore
Shane Apps, who was a SOAR
leader during the June and July
sessions, had nothing but
rave reviews of the class as
a whole. When asked what
he saw in the new batch of
students, Shane expressed
that the new students were
“very impressive” and he
could not wait to see what
the new freshmen are going
to accomplish.
On a final note, SOAR had
the unique ability to calm the
nerves of the student body
as a whole and exposed the
incoming freshmen this
recent summer to what
Brevard College has in store
for everyone. In my
opinion, Brevard is different
from any other college I have
comes along once in life.
As SOAR continued, each
and every student slowly but
surely was exposed to one
another. Friendships were
formed, relationships were
made, and all-in-all people
began to feel comfortable in the
presence of one another
because of the home-spun
atmosphere that Brevard
College transmits to its
adulthood and responsibility
like no other feeling ever Just
knowing that life was soon
going to change for the better
students.
Following SOAR, the class of
2012 certainly made a mark on
the college as a whole.
Freshman Jen Nyman, who will
be on the women’s tennis team
competing for the Tornados,
describes her journey to
Brevard College and overall
experiences here as “a good
social experiment.”
Not only do students like Jen
have a good view of the school
as a whole, but fellow students
and upperclassmen feel as
though the incoming freshmen
class will be nothing but
successful during their tenure
ever visited. Not only does the
college stand for diversity and
acceptance within the
community and campus as
whole, but it encourages the
student body to step back from
stereotypes and labels and to
venture outside the box to
discover what remains to be
discovered and experienced.
Brevard is back in session so
let the success and tradition
continue!
