by John Lange
Sport Editor
The Brevard Men’s Soccer team looks to
rebound from an injury riddled season with
a totally different look this season. Last
season ended with the Tornados having a
4-13-1 record and four seniors graduating.
But this year shows a more international
look, while still focusing on a young team
that looks to greatly improved.
The lone senior on the team is Kyle
Hamilton (Peterhead, Scotland) who scored
three goals last season, including one game
wiiming goal. Also returning is last year's
leading scorer, junior Ian Townson (Boiling
Springs, South Carolina) who scored 4
goals and had two assists for 10 points on
the season. Also looking to put the ball in
the back of the net is sophomore Miro
Mustonen (Helsinki, Finland.) This season
also features the BC debut of Henri Erti.
Erti (Kangasala, Finland), who had to sit
out last season because of NCAA
amateurism mles, will be a key component
to the success of the Tornados this season.
Erti and Mustonen will be joined by five
of their countrymen on this year’s team
along with players from Canada,
Kazakhstan,
Scotland and
The
Netherlands,
giving the squad
an international
flavor that
should provide
results. The
goalkeeping
corps is made up
of freshmen
Thomas Kombol
(Kannapolis,
North Carolina)
and Jerry
Hatsady (Orlando, Florida.)
Nine of the twenty matches that the team
will play this year will be at home. The
season kicks off this Friday (August, 29*)
against Belmont Abbey College. Highlights
later on in the season include conferences
matches against Newberry College, Carson-
Newman College, Wingate University and
Lincoln Memorial University.

Women’s Soccer returns to Brevard
College this season with a schedule of 9
home matches.
The slate includes non-conference
matches with Columbia College, Coker
College, Lees-McRae College, Belmont
Abbey College, Warren Wilson College,
Emmanuel College and Converse College.
The conference schedule at home consists
of only matches against Newberry College
and Carson-Newman College.
The squad, which was picked to finished
9th in the South Atlantic Conference pre
season poll, finished last fall with a 4-15-1
record. Still, the team has cause for
optimism this year,as they had no seniors
during that campaign, and a majority of the
players return looking to improve upon
their previous record.
Leading the offensive attack will be
Cherie Haseltin, a sophomore midfielder
from Marietta, Georgia who put in 3 goals
and had one assist last season to lead the
team in scoring with 7 points. Also looking
to contribute will up top will be Carrilea
Potter, Ashley Fincher and Nikki Peacock.

A great majority of the newcomers, come
from within the local area, and are hoping
to make their mark at the next level. The
first chance to see the Lady Tornados in
regular season action is today (August 29*)
at 5:30 p.m. here on campus.
